Q: Is this made out of metal or plastic?

Its made of metal . Very well made.

Q: what is the burntime?

With a full tank of kerosene I get about 12 hours. It really depends on what fuel you use and how high you set the wick. Enjoy.

Q: Is this a 'hot blast' or a 'cold blast' lantern?

This is a cold blast lantern. Hot blast lanterns have the tubing you see on the side continue all the way to the top to circulate fresh air and exhaust. Hot blast lanterns are better for indoors as the heat is more circulated rather than lost through exhaust through the chimney of a cold blast lantern. Both, still however use carbon monoxide and proper ventilation and precaution should be taken for both lanterns. The lantern pictured uses a cold blast system where fresh air is piped through the "arms" and up out of the chimney as well. These lanterns will produce heat up the top but the "arms" should not get hot, as the cold air circulates through them.
