Missing text - kindle version
I have been reading along daily since January 1st. This makes it very easy to read the Bible in a year. Easy to understand and having it on my kindle makes it convenient. I have enjoyed it until I got to October 8th and noticed some missing text. The reading is supposed to be Psalm 78: 56-72 (which finishes that chapter) but it stops at verse 64. Next days reading starts a new chapter in Psalm so it just gets left out. Now I’m wondering what else may have been missing that I didn’t notice.

New Year's Resolution made easy!
I was dreading reading the whole Bible in a year, but felt it was important. I ordered this version because I like the lime green ( I know it will make it more likely to be read) . Rather than falling asleep, I look forwards to my readings. This great Bible gives you some Old Testament scripture ( starts with Genesis), then New Testament scripture (starts with Matthew), Psalms, and Proverbs. Each Day starting Jan. 1st. Approx. 20 minutes of reading daily. The following day it picks up right where you left off in the Old Testament, New Testament, psalms and Proverbs. I have read passages from the Bible in the past, but now am actually going to read the whole thing this year! I love the feel of this Bible, the paperback makes it very flexible. The letters are easy to see, not tiny like in some Bibles. The pages are fairly thin but very smooth to the touch. Rather than treating the Bible like a cream puff, I am making it part of my life. I never thought it was proper to eat and read the Bible, but our Father in Heaven needs to be part of our lives. So if I'm going to read from this Bible, I'll pick up something warm to drink and cuddle with this sweet Bible. It's not too late to make this your New Year's resolution. If you read one day's worth, you'll finish one year from when you start. I find myself wondering what happens next... like when Joseph's brothers sell him and lie to their father saying that Joseph's coat of many colors was found torn and bloody. Leading their father to believe that Joseph was dead. The Bible is a very powerful book. God can speak to us in many ways. This is one of those ways. Try it for yourself! You will be glad you did. This version is in an easy to understand English. AWESOME.... get it and see how you'll love it too. Realize that this is not the Bible you want if you want to flip through to look for certain scriptures. Get a normal Bible if that's what you want. This one has all the scriptures, but it is divided for reading from the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs daily. This set up makes it harder to look for a specific line of scripture. I have a regular Bible for that. Good Luck in your journey of LOVE and FORGIVENESS.

Review of Paper and Kindle Versions
I have purchased both versions of this study Bible. The paperback version I have is the 1988 print. The font size is on the small side, but very readable for me with good lighting. I wish the paper version had page numbers, but I guess it doesn't matter because the devotion days are clearly in a large font. For example, if you're looking for June 7th, it's printed in a very large font and difficult to miss.Of course, the paperback version, though it is small, is still weightier and bulkier than a Kindle! That can be a bit tiring if you're not reading at a table. What I didn't like about this paperback version is when two or more chapters are given in a devotion it's a bit of work figuring out where you're at. For example, Jan 3rd the devotion is Genesis 5:1-7:4. After you finish reading chapter 5, the only way that you know you've transitioned to chapter 6 is through the double space between the two chapters. I'm old fashioned in that I would like a giant "5" at the beginning of chapter 5 and a giant "6" at the beginning of chapter 6 so that I know where the separation takes place. Also, just for memorization.Example: "Wow, that was an awesome verse! Wait... That was verse 18 of what chapter?" Then I have to thumb through the pages to look for the double spacing between the chapters. Let's just say that the double spacing is pretty tight and sometimes I have to look extra hard for it.The Kindle version is great because I can change font size. Great even when the lighting is on the dim side. And of course having a Kindle version is better than holding the bulkier, weightier version of the study Bible. What I didn't like about the Kindle version is that it doesn't have a "Next sub-Devotion" or "Previous sub-Devotion" key. For example, the devotion for Jan 4th has 4 sub-devotions. They are Genesis 8:1-10-32; Matthew 4:12-25; Psalm 4:1-8; and Proverbs 1:20-23. Genesis 9 has a lot of the begats, so let's say that I want to skip that for a few minutes and go directly to the Matthew part of the devotion. I have to keep hitting the page down key 19 times till I get there. Once again, a next/previous sub-devotion option would be nice.Other than that, if you stick with it, you will have read the Bible in a whole year and that's REALLY what's more important!***

Very enjoyable reading
I love this Bible! Since it’s paper back I feel comfortable making notes, marking and drawing hearts along side of what I’m reading. I have to get a new one every two years because it gets all marked up. Sometimes I have to do some catching up.

The Optician's Choice..?
Part of the extensive and useful "One-Year Bible" series this Compact version is, for me, a new and slightly uncertain direction. The excellent series - which encompases the Bible in numerous translations (versions) - all adopt the same format, and in this the Compact Edition is no different. The basic concept is to make it easy for the user to complete a reading of the entire Bible in 365 installments, each comprising four parts: - something from the Old Testament, from the New Testament, from the Psalms and from Proverbs. Where this differs from traditional Reading Plans, is that it requires no reference to a separate Bible, with all the consequent thumbing backwards and forwards. Instead it prints out the full text already arranged into 365 separate daily readings. Whereas existing versions are all in a fairly standard book format (approx 5" x 8"), this edition takes its Compact classification very seriously, coming in at under 4" x 6" - a massive 40% reduction in page size. It is, surprisingly, also a good 25% thinner than its full size cousins, although this is partly due to the use of thinner paper. So what do I make of it? The content is set out much as before and as such is as useful as ever, but the font sizing and line spacing are necessarily considerably reduced, and it is this aspect alone that causes me some slight concerns. Whereas the new handy sizing is quite useful, particularly (say) when travelling, or to slip inside a briefcase, it appears to me to have been achieved at a hefty cost to readability. It employs a serif font similar to Times New Roman, at an amazingly small seven point size - ie. ten lines to the inch. If your eyes are much less than 100% or you are ever likely to want to read it in low lighting conditions, then this edition is probablyly not for you. In fact even with good eyesight, I doubt that many would class this as a "comfortable" read. If however you can live happily with such condensed print, then the heavily reduced format certainly does live up to it's "Compact" name and makes it very easy to handle. But if in any doubt at all, order the standard version.

Very very good
The NIV has never been a favourite of mine, but recently I've grown a great fondness of it. This is the 1984 version, and it reads very well, it's actually quite traditional these days but very easy to read. You get the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalm and Proverb each day. It works well, and it really is read within 10-15 minutes. I jumped in about 2 weeks ago, and its working very well, I have no excuse to miss it out when it takes such little time. Having a structured way of reading really helps. It also makes you feel more inclined to read through it more in your main bible, because it piques your interest.

An excellent resouce for the undisciplined!
I would only consider buying this book if you already own a conventionally-laid out bible, since it is not really suitable as a primary reference book (although it does have a brief index, should you wish to use it as such). However, as a means for getting into a discipline of daily bible reading, I think it's fantastic. Although it might seem extravagent to buy a chopped-up version of a book you probably already own, I've found that not having to fumble with turning up several different passages each day (and not being tempted to read more or less than the prescribed amount each day) makes a big difference to my motivation to keep going for the whole year. The book is nicely laid out, with a good-sized font. The hard cover should protect it well, although it is a little larger than the 'Compact' title might suggest: approx 4 x 6 x 1 inches (not pocket-sized). Each day contains a chunk from each of the Old Testament, NT, Psalms and Proverbs, taking a total of about 10-15 minutes to read (more if you refer to separate commentaries and pray while you're read, of course). The entries are dated (good for discipline), but there's obviously no reason not to jump in part-way through the year.Slight criticisms: - Each day's verses contain one or two sentences highlighted in bold, intended for memorizing. The choices for this treatment are sometimes a little odd, and I don't really agree with the idea on principle (the editor effectively decides which of God's words are more significant than others). - There are only one or two verses from Proverbs each day (while the Psalms are repeated twice during the year); had I been designing it, I would probably have gone through the Psalms once and Proverbs twice. - A fabric page marker would have been nice, especially considering that the target audience of this book are those too lazy to turn up different passages in a standard bible each day! - I won't comment on the NIV text in detail, other than to say that it's not the most literal translation (for which see NASB, NKJV, ESV). I quite like it as I find it easy to read, but you have to be aware that some of the translations are a bit loose.

Think it's Great.
I really appreciate having my daily bible reading broken up into chunks for me. I've tried following a printed plan that tells you where to read but it's just not practical for me. I bought this book in paperback and then found that the times I've been able to grab a minute I've not been able to grab the book first. So I got this on our android using an kindle app. I love it. I keep the book at home and use this when I'm not near the book.I love that it's pretty much the exact same. I say pretty much because in the paperback each day has a verse that is highlighted (in bold font) that is kind of a key verse for that day. I thought this`d be the same but it wasn`t and that was slightly dissapointing. Overall, very satisfied.

Perfect for daily reading
Have been reading it daily since I bought it! The scriptures have been divided really well so it makes it easy to read daily, doesn’t feel like too much. I gave it 4 stars only because the cover is not great, not strong and is like to get worn out quickly, other then that perfect for keeping up with daily bible reading!
