Extreme DAX: Take your Power BI and Microsoft data analytics skills to the next level

If you've already started with DAX but want a good route to get to the next level in your abilities, then this is the book for you. Although not for complete beginners this book is a great tool to have on hand as a reference and given the number of excellent examples, in a lot of cases a DAX recipe book.In particular, the sections on security and RLS and the not often discussed AutoExist are well written about but more importantly are well explained for the reader. This high level of clear communication for the reader is consistent throughout the book and coupled with downloadable example files that allow you to see things in action, it is difficult to think of a reason to not buy this book.

I was supplied with an early review copy.I found the book to be well written and easy to follow. It has content that addresses all the major elements of DAX; modelling, security, calculations, visualisations and performance. It's content on performance is the first I've read that really helped me understand some of the real life issues I've come across.This isn't a book for beginners, nor is it a book that will teach you how to present your data to the boardroom. It is a book that will help you understand what DAX is and how to make it do what you need.

Extreme DAX, reveals the full potential of the DAX language's features, and it's an exhilarating journey. I'm looking forward to the second edition, which will certainly bring additional tools, such as 𝗙𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱𝘀 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀, that promise to extend the Scope of DAX even further. This is an absolute essential resource for BI Developers && BI Analysts, enabling the use of advanced DAX techniques to perform in-depth data analysis.

Books, rather than videos, have long been my preference for learning.Of the several DAX books I possess, Extreme DAX and DAX Patterns are the two I reference most.Extreme DAX is exceptionally well written. This is crucial when the Authors detail the topic which confounds most of us who first learned DAX: row and filter context. They expand on this topic to include query context.Before delving into 'context', they detail Power BI best practices including model design, calculated columns, and measures using the CALCULATE() function.Over the past several months since purchasing this book, I've adopted many of their best practices recommendations. Doing so has increased my level of confidence when taking on new Power BI work assignments especially those which do not align, design-wise, with my prior experience.
