How comparable is this unit to a tamiya torque tuned motor that comes with the tamiya dual ridge rc kit? is it faster?

The 15.5 motor is a bit faster than the silver can or torque tuned motor. Not major and will run longer on a battery.

What lipo battery would you recommend for the tamiya 54612 r/c brushless 15.5t. if possible, i was planning to upgrade my tamiya 1/10 mercedes amg.

Great question - I don’t run Lipo in any of my cars though.
