I give this product 5 stars. My dogs and kids took a few tumbles down our new hardwood stairs and I knew something had to be done (since the removal of the carpet was my idea). I do not like carpet, I hate it, it holds dirt and germs so I need a different solution. I tried this product and it works well, no more tumbles and it doesn't look bad in my opinion. I have had them on for a month now with two teenagers, two dogs ( a great dane an a bull dog) and they have not budged. I can clean the steps and it does not have any effect on these treads. They are easy to install and remove with no residue. I would definitely recommend, and I have. This was a great buy and lifesaver ( literally)!!!!!!

Like most other reviewers, I bought this product because I have an elderly dog that was having some difficulty with the stairs in our new house. Our new house is only new to us as it was built in the 1950s, so this staircase is very narrow at only 30.5 inches wide!So I searched and searched for a more narrow tread because I didn’t want to have to cut them due to the rounded corners and finally, these seemed to fit the bill because they were 4 x 24. They are most decidedly not 24 inches long but rather nearly 32 inches! (See pics. Note: the green cutting mat looks like they’re 5” but that’s only bc I had it shifted over an inch. They are only 4” wide.)I ended up tracing the rounded corners on each one and carefully cutting it out. It worked but still took me 57x longer than if they had been the proper advertised size.I also found it easier to use a wet erase marker to make 3 dots where I wanted to line the edges up. I started the tread at one end, checked that it was going to line up properly with the rest of my dots, then I peeled off the rest of the backing at once and stretched it out with one hand while my other hand smoothed over it to lay it down flat. Then I went over it with the roller tool to really press it down.The roller tool is surprisingly good quality, I’m pleased I’ll get to use it for future projects.The adhesive was not too sticky- I was able to reposition the treads (before I rolled them out) with ease and it didn’t pull up my hardwood floors clear coat, which has happened with painters tape.I can’t say yet whether they lift or curl with use but if they do I’ll definitely be back to update my review.

Great adhesion and good surface texture for our composite decking stairs (under cover and not exposed to the elements). Bought these to give our old Labrador better traction going up the stairs, makes a huge difference. He used to whine and do circles at the bottom of the stairs before shuffling up, now he only whines once before smoothly climbing the steps. Also like that they are pre-cut. Only complaint is that they aren’t really “translucent”, they’re more of a cloudy opaque, but it’s minor in the long run. Very happy overall.

As a test, I installed just 3 pieces on my cleaned, inside stairs (stained wood) given there were mixed reviews for this product. There were no installation directions enclosed but while it was a bit tricky to keep them straight & not get bubbles/wrinkles, installation was easy enough. However, after a couple days, the edges on a couple of them were not staying adhered even though I used the enclosed roller. I figured this would just get worse as dust/cat hair got underneath so I removed them. Unfortunately, even though I pulled very gently on them, some of the stain on the stairs pulled off as well--bummer. Another odd thing was that even though the texture barely seems adequate to prevent slipping (another minus), my 2 cats did not like walking on them & always went to the edge of those 3 steps that were not covered by the tape! Appearance is acceptable but unavoidable that the semi-transparency does detract from the steps' attractiveness. There was also a fairly strong chemical smell initially. Great idea, just didn't work on my stairs--the adhesive might be better on some stains/surfaces than others. I don't think I would recommend this for painted stairs since they pulled off some stain.

I was looking for a non-slip solution to our newly installed carpeted stairs because several of our friends and family members slipped going down the stairwell. The carpet that was installed on the stairs was a very tight knit low pile and I couldn’t find anything else that would make them non-slip-until I found these treads! I had been scouring reviews of other brands and finally stumbled upon someone’s review stating they had installed these on their carpet and so I decided to trust them. I’m super happy that I took the leap of faith and installed these with no issues in less than 30 minutes for our entire staircase. Best of all the treads came with the little roller tool to help them adhere. I highly recommend these for putting on top of carpet to combat slipping and you can barely notice them since they are somewhat translucent.
