Our third grade teachers have used this poster for several years. Because of the look and size of the poster, motivation is built in. We've developed a rough draft outline, ensuring a final draft poster. They're taught to duplicate the opened page template to encourage a more complete student biography with turning pages. Student illustrators find that this project showcases their talents, as well as the writers in the classroom. They enthusiastically present their posters to the class, often dressed in character, with puppets, or other appropriate props. Their imaginations are boundless. It's pure enjoyment watching the biography genre captivate students this age. The posters look excellent displayed around the classroom and become a great source of pride.

I teach third grade and we have a huge research project at the end of the year. The kids research famous people of their choice and present their research. This poster has saved my life! Introducing 9-year-olds to research-based writing is difficult and confusing, especially when you have so many different skill levels in the classroom. The poster allows kids who are struggling to organize their information easily and gives more developed researchers an opportunity to show their skills. I suggest photocopying the poster first and having your class do a rough draft before they move on to their final poster. They love creating something on this scale and it makes an amazing bulletin board!

Each year I allow my students to pick a final project at the end of our biography, and this is one of the options. Such a great way to assess their knowledge of the material! Scholastic did a great job with this poster!

Posters are easy for students of various grade levels to complete. Very motivating as students love the variety of questions and pictures they get to complete. Makes a nice project to display.
