More than just a book of recipes. This book has lots of history it offers a glimpse into a time gone but not forgotten. I love the stories the pictures and the great recipes not long drawn out recipes but simple and delicious ingredients you typically will find in a pantry. Love it. Took me back to my childhood. I was amazed by this product. The history given on the foods and cooking techniques are amazing. This is the best book I have bought in a while. It is a shame the author has passed on!!

The Gullah-Geechee people are under threat from developers, and so this is an important (and tasty) piece of their cultural history.
