A good bag and a good bladder. But it's let down by the pipe which kinks easily and the bite valve which is fiddly.

Purchased 5 years ago, here's the deets: Background: I have used this backpack on about 75 hikes, varying 5-12 miles. And on about 30 bicycle rides of 10-25 miles. The bag: No doubt this thing has stood the test of time. No broken straps, no holes in seams or outside pockets, no worn through places, no tears, no broken zippers. I'm slightly amazed after all I've dragged this thru. It is tough. Surely results may vary per user. It has two large pockets, I use one for liquids and one for food and hike stuff. It also has two small pockets, I put my keys and sunnies and any extras in them. It has 2 side mesh pockets for water bottles, and a bungee cord on the back that I've got no idea what to use for, but looks good anyhow. Also: on top it has a small carry handle I use to hang it on a hanger in my closet, and on the bottom there's a velcro'd pocket containing a super bright yellow rain cover I've never used. The shoulder straps fit well, are easily adjustable, and do not rub. The mid-connecting strap to the shoulder straps is rugged. There's also a 'round the waist strap I've never used. My original thought was the 18L might be too small, because at first I wanted to stuff it with every piece of my hiking junk, bottles of hydration, and belongings. Then I found that even on a longer 10-12 mile hike, all I needed are a few things: hydration, snacks, maybe extra clothes, a couple extras, keys and sunnies. For this amount of stuff, the size was just right for me. On a few "beware of the bears" hikes, I even had enough room for my full size pistol. The bladder: While shopping, I was all wrapped up in how many Liters the bladder held. So I decided the 2 Liter bladder was good, but even after several washings after uses, I can't figure how to get any bacteria holding bladder bag fully cleaned, so I ditched it for water bottles. OK, I'm in healthcare, so maybe I'm a little OCD about bugs but I figure better safe than sick stomach. :) Price: excellent value IMO Cheers

Honestly of my favorite backpacks! I've used this pack extensively last year during my amusement park visits (over two dozen, all-day visits), and I can't wait to take it out once the weather gets warmer! I'll start by saying that I don't like the bladder that comes with it, and I quickly replaced it with a Platypus 3L bladder (yes, it fits!). It's not that there's anything "bad" about the original bladder (which I still have), but it's not the best to have when you're using it a lot. The materials used and the quality of this bag are excellent - I see no wear or tear on any seams, and the color doesn't look to be faded. The water bottle holders on the side of the bag are convenient, and I love the little touches like the key clip on the bottom pocket, or the rain cover hidden on the bottom of the bag. The bag, while smaller than other day packs that I've used, is the perfect size for what I need to carry snacks, hydration, an extra shirt or towel, a hat, sunscreen, smartphone, and some other odds and ends. The size also means that it's not too heavy and isn't bulky. The price goes down over the winter, and I wouldn't hesitate to get another one if (and when) my current bag needs to be replaced. Highly recommended!!

I’ve used this backpack several times since I received it, and it’s really terrific. Easily the best hiking gear that I’ve ever bought. It’s perfect for the one day hikes, holding all the stuff you would need, snacks, keys, wallet, lunch, extra clothes, whatever. Excellent design with side pockets and a few zip slots on the front. It also has this great feature with one pocket section that folds down, and you can strap in a bigger item, like a jacket, towel, or blanket behind it. All this while having water to sip on the whole time. My girlfriend recently bought the Teton hydration pack (without the backpack part), and we found it was too difficult to share water, and not enough storage area for our day-trip stuff. This product easily solved the dilemma, now we bring both. A very well thought-out product, even the little details like a grab handle on the top, insulation panels around the water bladder, and mini pockets within some sections make this a five star product for me!
