original purchase cable would be seen by laptop win 7 but wouldn't be recognized by even a test prog that tech support had me go thru. "putty" did a replacement and the 2nd cable would be seen by their diagnostic program but still wouldn't be seen by my third party program that is looking for a serial input.overall feelings, if u can get away with a different type of input other then using the serial converter DO IT, all this did was waste a week and a half of my time. i purchased a LONO 2 board / like an aurdino board that is usb and worked the very first try on all my pc's
