Yes of course, these are used for many activities including distilling essential oils from different herbs, as well as to make some excellent cleaning supplies that just so happen to be moderately safe for consumtion. Personally I find my french oak aged cleaning products to be my favorite. It is good to keep in mind that the distillation of alcohol for the purpose of consumption without a license is very illegal in the states.

The thermometer can be removed. An airlock is provided, so you can make mash or wine directly in the pot.
