Works great
It didn’t work for me when I received it so I decided to change the batteries and it worked perfectly. My grandson loves it!

A fun little gaming computer that reminds me of a 1984 Commodore 64
Playing with this little stylus-driven gaming computer brought back pleasant memories of playing How About a Nice Game of Chess? (the line is from the classic 1983 film Wargames, being a pleasant suggestion made by the supercomputer known as "the WOPR" whenever hacker David Lightman logs into the Pentagon's strategic thermonuclear war gaming program) on an early Commodore 64 back in 1984. That program, written in Pascal if I remember correctly, was part of microcomputer chess, checkers, and Reversi programs written for the software company Odesta. All three are also on this device, as well as Draughts, Four-in-a-Row, Fox and Geese, Grasshopper, Halma, Nim, and Northcote's game. I've never played most of these games and concentrated on Chess and Checkers for evaluation purposes. The "graphics" on this device are what reminded me of the Commodore 64, a legendary early gaming computer, for which an amazing 1301 game titles were released. The graphics on this little handheld are primitive but functional. The screen is small but visible, even in bright light. You enter Chess moves by using the included stylus and the portable computer responds (in 7 languages) at up to what appears to be ELO 1450 level, but that's a little vaguely described. You can take back blunders without guilt and the LCD Chess display is more than good enough for playing purposes. There's a teaching mode for newbies, strength level settings for playing Chess, and game or positional analysis that can be set for between 1 and 15 minutes. There are more than 200 master Chess games built into its memory, so this portable Chess computer is certainly helpful to those learning the game. Wandering through the program's landscape is made much easier by pressing the help button. I spent a lot of time seeking and receiving helpful tips and advice whenever I was lost or confused, whether it was while playing a game or while navigating what was initially an unfamiliar device. It is nothing but accommodating whenever possible. There's a quick start guide that's included, as well as a relatively thick gaming manual that explains the rudiments of each of the included games. I appreciate the emphasis on teaching that this device offers to its users. It's an excellent portable tool for both entertainment as well as educational purposes. Although it's somewhat limited in execution, it's heart is in the right place. Given its reasonable price and its emphasis on teaching and learning (especially Chess, Checkers is several orders of magnitude easier to learn), it makes a wonderful gift for any kid or grown-up eager to learn.

A mix of new look for pieces, good technology
What I like is that it is nice to have a game that is not connected to the internet. You can play and not be distracted.I also like the structural layout of the game design. This might be real good for kids picking up the game.I didn't like the chess pieces themselves. I literally had to look at the bishop to see what it was. The pieces do not look "all the same" but they are not so distinctive from each other as with other games and real world games. For me, it's harder to distinguish pieces from each other. I've seen this problem in other games and maybe it's only a problem for me because I'm fussier than most in this area. The game plays at levels that will help a good player a better player.I will ask around among my chess buddies if they like the pieces and if they do I'm going to give the game to them. I want to encourage the production of separate chess games like this, it simply doesn't work for me personally. I wish it did, I was very excited. Look closely at the pieces before buying. If it's all good for you BUY this because you WILL have fun and it will make your game better.

A 99 cent app is better.
It is left over from 1993 . It is terrible to today's standards. The compute time is very slow. You must wait for it to time out for it to go off.The worst is the screen.Due to work I'm stuck with it. I was too busy to return it. It will be something I just throw away. Do not buy this.

Entertaining handheld chess computer that offers a lot for the price!
I liked this stylus driven console for enormous chess games it comes loaded with & a nice good sized screen that is bright enough. I am surprised to see the price of this product. Touch works fine and easy to use. Build quality is great and it looks nice. Also, it come well packed and can be a great gifting option to teens who are into chess. For the price, I am satisfied with it overall & I can recommend this. It delivers a lot for the price.
