The New High Intensity Training: The Best Muscle-Building System You've Never Tried Review: CAN'T TELL YOU HOW GOOD THIS BOOK IS! - This book is so, so good. This is the best book I've ever read on the subject and I've read hundreds. It is informative, entertaining, and an magnificent read. This is the most fun reading on fitness/bodybuilding you will find. I loved this book. High Intensity Training is the most efficient, most effective workout system ever devised. No question about it. It works so well it has to be experienced to be believed. But, it is not easy. It is brutal if done right. It takes some serious will power and want power to do it right. I had the good fortune of training with a man named Chad Coy, who is now a strongman competitor and owns Powerhouse Gym in Kokomo, Indiana. When I trained with him, he was a 21 year old exercise physiology student at Purdue University. He was a very intense, driven young man. He taught me how to train extremely hard and I made the best gains of my life. We followed Ell Darden's protocols, modified slightly, but we trained very, very hard, to the point of puking many, many times. No one wanted to train with us and thought we were crazy. But we were two of the biggest, strongest men in the country at that time. Chad is even stronger now, ranked nineteenth in the world in strongman competition. We trained hard and brief. This book tells you everything you need to know to make great progress, but are you willing to train hard enough? That is the magic question. If you are willing to commit to busting your _ss, this book is a must. It takes time and effort to learn to break through your inhibition about training this hard. You have been conditioned since early childhood to watch out, don't hurt yourself, and don't work too hard. You have evolved for millions of years to save your energy and resources for when you had to have them to make the kill or escape from the tiger. You have to learn to leave it all in the gym. You have to have the attitude of the warrior in there. If you learn to do it right, it is the most rewarding experience of your life because you will feel what it means to have personal power and use it. You will get stronger and more confident. The fitness industry needed this book. There is so much B.S. going on right now with training. I saw these goons on the golf channel the other night showing these goofy, ineffective, and downright dangerous exercises using swiss balls and putting the body in the most biomechanically unbalanced position to show how to build golf specific strength. What a joke. Plyometrics and explosive lifts are a sure path to ruin your joints and tear muscles. But what does every strength coach in America have its players doing? Guess. Ell Darden tells some great, inspirational, informative, and funny stories in this book and I believe all of them. He has a penchant for the truth and the details. This book is worth it's weight in gold when you figure the amount of time you save by not following long, inefficient, b.s. routines. Ninety very hard minutes a week is all you need. So save yourself time and frustration and get this book, read it and apply it. Jeff Richardson [email protected] Review: Great HIT book - This was my intro to the HIT. I found it to be a good mix of entertaining stories and practical advice. In fact, much of the stories are presented in a way to help you understand how to apply the techniques in a way that simply giving step by step instructions for the exercises could never do. It contains a 12 month beginner/intermediate program plus another 6 month specialisation application program, which follows David Hudlow and how he gained 18 pounds of muscle in two weeks and more. There is also a section on routines for specialising on particular muscle groups. My criticism would be that all the information is there but you have to reread sections a number of times to put it all together. This probably reflects the fact that while HIT is a simple philosophy, there are still many subtle complexities. The other criticism is that the description of David Hudlows program is fairly high level. More attention to detail is spent on the results than how he got there. For example, why did he suddenly put on 18 pounds of muscle in two weeks in phase 2 after doing the HIT program for 66 days in phase 1, with little apparent change except for eating a few more calories, and doing a slight change to the exercise program. It would have been good if more detail was given, for example the way a description of Casey Viator's workout was given, where Arthur Jones commanded him do to more reps etc. But overall its an excellent book which I find myself rereading and still picking up new things.

Great HIT book
This was my intro to the HIT. I found it to be a good mix of entertaining stories and practical advice. This is a book for anyone who is into the High Intensity workout principles. I liked this book.
I have been into physical fitness, building strength and the martial arts all my life. I am always seeking new workout programs even though I am in my senior years. I recently purchased this 256 page soft cover (The New High Intensity Training by Ellington Darden, Ph.D.) book, which focuses on serious body building exercise programs incorporating the principles of Arthur Jones (Inventor of the Nautilus exercise machines) who developed his high intensity approach to building the body. This very informative book is organized into six parts. Part one gives a short biography of Arthur Jones and his development of the HIT (High Intensity Training) workout principles. Part two covers the time Arnold Schwarzenegger and other serious body builders visited and trained under Arthur Jones guidance on his Nautilus machines. Part three focuses on HIT principles, exercises and routines. Part four explains specialized HIT routines. Part five deals with a 6-month HIT course for explosive growth and the final part answers questions about the HIT workout principles. One of the many reasons I love this book is because it includes specific details of each exercise with clear black and white photographs. It also has numerous photographs of some of the most famous body builders of the past such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Boyer Coe, Casey Viator, Sergio Oliva and many others. This book also does not “pull punches” in its realistic advice concerning body building etc. Even though this book was published in 2004 the principles and exercises it shows are still valid today. If you are a serious body builder or anyone who is into training with weights this book is for you. Rating: 4 Stars. Consigliato

It's a great book, sharing some of ghe history beahind h.i.t. Why it's the best system to develop muscle mass as fast as possible. Teaches the exercises. I just find that the author have some biases toward Arnold, Mike and Bill Pearl. Showing that is not imparcial and perhaps even lying. In the final I enjoyed a lot and is very insigthfull.

I started hit routines and techniques by looking at online materials. This book can be used by any one at any stage beginner, intermediate or advanced.I have used the routines provided here and got exceptional results.I am happy with the body responding to it.It works wonder if you put in the effort.Remember hit routines are tough.Dr darden gives full body routines and explains each and everything regarding it.I myself was following a 4 day split but doing a 3 day training has really worked well. The advice i give is go through some videos regarding hit and get an idea of it,then this book can be followed.I din't regret spending on this. The tricks given and specialised routines given by darden are really helpful. Creatine loading trick really worked for me.I was able to gain a descent pounds of muscle. My results told me that Somehow full body routines are better. The journey of hit has convinced me this is the best in bodybuilding world. The negatives about this book are...Dr darden doesn't provide a complete routine or framework to get a six pack and it hurts me.A good chapter dedicated to supplements could have been really helpful.Dr darden criticizes frank zane and Mike mentzer, somehow i didn't like it.
