Direct OEM part
I bought a "used" on from amazon resale. It was about $200 cheaper than the asking price currently. The turbo looked brand new, and I could not see any signs of previous installation. It completely fixed my underboost code. I went from 4-6 psi boost up to 16 psi. I could not find anything wrong with the old turbo during disassembly and it did work for the most part. I preformed an engine leakdown test on the charge side of the the intake (crank case is also part of this) and found no substantial leaks, tested all solenoids and wastegate actuators and the only thing left was the turbo. You need to perform these steps in order to see if you have a leak in the charge side. IE loose connection, split hose, bad solenoid ect. Those will cause the P0299 codes and a replacement turbo will not remediate it. This turbo was a swap in part, I definitely replaced every hose and seal while I was in there (oil cooler hose kit), and chanced the oil and filter, and oil feed and return line. I didn't have a turbo "failure" so I didn't need to do all this, but I felt it was better than to ignore it. Installation will take you the better part of a day, if you have everything. I have done this probably 4 times by now, so it only took me a few hours. Its a direct fit part, and its oem quality. Dont forget to prime your turbo with oil somehow. You can even unplug your ignition coil and crank it to prime the turbo if you are extra cautious. The only con I see, is the exhaust manifold is not a Garrett part anymore. The charge side is Garrett, but the exh manifold seems to be a regular cast part from one of those Asian countries. I was concerned about the MLS gasket sealing on the manifold/head because the ports were ground a little too large, but it worked out fine.
