I would suggest that you have the child hold the glasses to his eyes and you turn the focus wheel for him. Aim at an object he understands and can verbalize, and ask him if he sees it clearly as you adjust the sighting.

Q: Are the eyepieces rubber so they can be used with eye glasses without scratching?

Yes there is rubber protection at the eyepiece end.

Q: How far out will we be able to look these distance wise? We take walks and my granddaughter like looking up in the trees and etc.
