Great intro to historical critical study of New Testament
Father Dan Harrington SJ, the late Jesuit scripture scholar at Boston College, is one of the most accessible scholarly writers in the Catholic tradition when it comes to Sacred Scripture. Harrington, a defender of the historical critical method in biblical criticism, gives you a great overview of this perspective on the New Testament. He includes a particularly strong grasp of the "Q" source theory in the formation of the gospels. It's getting harder to find this little paperback and its Old Testament companion book, but hopefully they will be reprinted again soon. Highly recommended.

Concise and yet profound
I had this as a text book for a course on Catholic Approach to the New Testament. The book was concise and strait forward. It did an excellent job of presenting the basics of different forms of Biblical interpretation and followed each up with a concrete example of how it works. While it was good I'm not sure it is 5 star worthy...

This is an outstanding intro text into New Testament interpretation ...
This is an outstanding intro text into New Testament interpretation techniques; textual, redactical, historical, etc. The reader is introduced into various interpretation techniques, its historical background, and how to interpret New Testament verses. Dr. Harrington is an eminent scholar in New Testament and a catholic priest. I have read his another book, "Matthew" , and his scholarly research in that book was just outstanding.
