Q: How does this work? Do the fish have to swim into it to eat

Food falls through adjustable holes in bottom. Fish pull worms out of holes.

Q: Will this work for bottom feeders? Does some of the food still go to the bottom of the tank?

This is mainly for frozen food. It keeps it in one area to give the food time to thaw so it can free float for all the fish instead of 1 fish swimming off with the frozen chunk.

Q: Has anyone used this for freeze dried food? I want to use freeze dried plankton with this but is it enough to hydrate it and let it sink eventually?

Yes, it works with freeze dried foods, that’s what I feed as well
