Does any one know the exact steel type of the shovel head (as in Example: D2, 1075, 420 stainless and so on..) Thanks!

Hi, The shovel head is made of 420 high carbon steel (420HC) which is a higher carbon content 420 stainless with a hardness of HRC50-52. After heat treatment, it can reach a hardness of HRC60-65. High carbon steel is primarily used to make knife, axe and other tools because it is hard, tensile and sharp with a high elastic limit and fatigue limit. It will not change shape or be broken even after long-term use. Therefore it can be used to cut or chop hard objects. Other steels with low carton content is soft and therefore can not be used to cut hard objects since it will tend to change shape or be bent.Thanks,JenniferFiveJoy

Can multiple extensions be added? If I were to buy two of the extension packs, would they all fit together to extend the handle even further?

Hi there Christopher, you definitely are able to attached as many of the extensions as you would like, as all the parts can connect- however, we don't recommend attaching more than one 2 pc extension pack because the longer the handle -> the longer the torque -> the greater the prying force the handle and shovel head needs to bear -> the easier the joint between the handle and the shovel head would wear down. What's the difference between the C1 and RS models besides price?

Hi Jennifer, the C1 shovel is smaller, more lightweight and compact to take on longer hikes/ backpacking. The RS shovel is larger and more heavy duty. The RS shovel head has a bigger surface area that can improve your efficiency when digging, and also has separate extension tubes you can get to add length and leverage. They both make for fantastic additions to your survival gear, but it depends on how you plan to use it. Hope that helps! : )

What on the shovel is suppost to be sharp? Mine is butterknife dull

Hi there, The blade side of the RS shovel. You may need to take a whetstone to the side of the shovel to sharpen it as we do not make it super sharp for safety reasons. Thanks! Hope that helps!
