I know because I have purchased eighteen and counting copies of I Ain't Gonna Paint No More for all the kids in my life, and they tell me. I try to keep one on my own bookshelf, but visiting toddlers, preschoolers and their big brothers and sisters beg to take it home. This picture book written by Karen Beaumont and illustrated by David Catrow has all the elements of great children's literature. Parents need not worry about the "ungrammatical title." This book will make readers of children. Toddlers howl with laughter as the main character paints his body parts all the while promising that he "ain't gonna paint no more." Because the text rhymes and follows a predictable pattern, preschoolers quickly learn to read the book themselves, focusing on the bright colored words that spell out "ARM, NECK, BACK, etc. Humor, rhyme, color, and print size all make this book fun and accessible to children. David Caltrow's whimsical illustrations do what a picture book is supposed to do - tell a story. When mom hides the paint from the child hero, the illustrations are black and white. As the main character "rescues" his paints and attempts to modify his artistic urges, the illustrations become vibrant and wild, filling the page with splashes of vivid color. Buy a hardcover version because children return to the book so often that a cardboard bound copy is not likely to last. Review: Fun book for your little person! - I adore this book! This is my grandkids favorite. When I taught pre k it was a favorite of my class as well. Just a cute rhyming story about a little one that gets into the paint and paints their entire body. You can sing it as you read and get some really fun laughs. Perfect for kids in pre k and kindergarten. They love guessing what part will be painted next! Great for teaching rhyming and predicting.

I love this book beyond belief. It's so colourful and cute. As an artist, I'm big on any book that encourages creativity and colourfulness. The one I got was big but I liked that about it. However, for some unknown toddler reason, my daughter decided she didn't like the book when she saw it and she'd have a fit every time I tried to read it to her. After about 3 months, she let me read it and now she loves it. When I tried to explain that if she'd let me read it months ago she could have enjoyed it this whole time, she shook her head and said, "No, mommy. Only now." (she's 2). Lord give me patience.
