Plump In The Night - Caravan

A Caravan Classic
I just recently picked up this album and am glad I finally took the plunge. Of the Caravan albums I own I would rate this one 2nd only to “In The Land Of The Grey And The Pink”. “Plump” is certainly one of the band’s harder rocking albums and contains a very nice mix of shorter more commercial songs with longer jamming epics. The addition of Geoffrey Richardson to the band at this point really seemed to breathe some new life into a formula that was starting to tire a bit. To my ears it sounds a lot more “modern” than some of the bands other works from the same period and has aged quite well. Several of the albums tracks remain staples of their live show today including “Memory Lain Hugh / Headloss”, and “The Dog The Dog He’s At It Again”. To my ears there is not a weak track on this one and I really enjoy it.

Another Caravan Masterpiece
This is a seldom heard record from a great band. Unfortunately for Caravan, 'In the Land Of Grey & Pink' , a masterpiece in its own right, overshadowed the rest of their work. I would say that the mood evoked by 'Grey & Pink'continues with this album. Highly recommended.

Great English Prog Rock
I'd never heard Caravan's music before though I like prog-rock acts such as Yes & Genesis. This was definitely different as it's from the "Canterbury scene" in England. It tends to be more folk-oriented, similar to early period Genesis before the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway record. They have a very melodic sense & add humor to their songs. They don't take themselves too seriously & you can tell they are having fun, unlike some overly serious prog acts. I found this endearing. Their instrumental prowess takes a back seat to writing a good song. Having read much Lovecraft fiction, I particularly enjoyed the C'thulu song.

FOR GIRLS WHO GROW PLUMP IN THE NIGHT!
FOR GIRLS WHO GROW PLUMP IN THE NIGHT.....is the FULL album title to this masterpiece. Containing all Pye Hastings material, it is his greatest sampling of composition. Caravan, after some adjustments with the band, went from a quartet to a quintet, and with 3 of the original 4 members (with 2 outstanding additions) this album is a stunning achievement! And still it remains SUCH a wonderful memory for me, upon first listen back in Autumn 1973...to today. One of the top 3 Caravan releases.

Good music, English folk with violin to boot
I love the album, saw them in concert in the ‘70s & am purchasing discs so I can play them in my car & home with better clarity& bonus tracks. They were a very underrated group

Can't help dancing to this
I love it, can listen to the whole album repeatedly and helps make up for missing Woodstock! I use it for working out music because it has a sexy vibe and makes me feel like dancing.

THIS IS NOT THE 1973 STUDIO ALBUM OF THE SAME NAME
Be aware -- THIS IS NOT THE 1973 STUDIO ALBUM OF THE SAME NAME by Caravan. I did not notice that when I ordered this. This is a single disc live album recorded in 2002. That said, it's a pretty decent performance and the pink with gray splatters vinyl is kind of cool for hard-core Caravan fans and collectors. Still, if you are looking for an excellent live recording, you would be better served by either Caravan and The New Symphonia, The Complete Concert or the more recent Concert Live production, Live at Shepherd's Bush.

This is one of my favourite CD's of all time so I am delighted to hear how the songs developed.

Excelente compra
