Great book and insight to a brave woman

Nice biography but, it was written in the sixties and is the style of the day. If you are expecting to discover the real Amy then this book is not for you.

This biography of Amy Johnson was originally published in 1967. It still reads very well, and it perhaps more contemporary now than Babington Smith could ever have envisaged. After Amy Johnson's pioneering solo flight from London to Australia, her life was virtually taken over by the tabloid press (and, especially, the Daily Mail) which come close to destroying her. Were she alive today, she would have been giving evidence to the Leveson Inquiry. Overall, it's a well-written straightforward biography of a fascinating figure at a remarkable historical time. This should certainly be appreciated by readers today.

Great, just what wanted. Delivered quick as well

After reading the glorious and sad story of Amelia Earhart, I had to read the equivalent British story. This 360pg book tells you everything (almost) and is very well written by CBS. How could a solo pilot in the days of unreliable aircraft fly across Asia (almost no runways in 1930!), bend the plane at several stops, get it 'fixed' and set off again, to reach the phenomenal welcome in Darwin. And then the mysterious events of Jan 1941. What a hero. (I love the photo of Amy with Amelia on pg 301, looking very unlike pioneer pilots.) A worthy addition to my collection.

Very interesting and detailed biograghy of the brave lady and her exploits.

My friend was very pleased with this gift for Christmas. She is a great fan of Amy Johnson.

After leaving home to live/work elsewhere in Britain Amy kept up a constant stream of chatty letters to her parents, many of which are included in the book giving us an excellent insight into her character and personality.
