I love watching cooking shows, and what sticks out to me is never the food, it’s the tools they use! The appliances, the utensils, kitchenware, etc. I absolutely love seeing large cutting boards. A friend of mine showed me a cutting board that had been made by their grandfather and has been passed down to them. The thing is decades old and still looks amazing! Imagine all the meals made on it decades before and up to this day? A beautiful piece of history for that family. This is also what I wanted, the last cutting board I will ever buy and pass down to the ones after me. A couple hours of research, I grew tired. Nearly gave up. I found that large, and good quality cutting boards were really out of my price range. Anywhere from $200-$300+. I believe in getting what you paid for, but that was too much. I desired a large cutting board for functionality, long standing use, and as a show piece in my kitchen. I took to Amazon for further research and came upon Sonder’s cutting board. They have many sizes and styles to choose from but Highland is what I set on. I had a budget of $100 so this was right around that. I eagerly awaited delivery, my husband can confirm I ran to the door when it arrived but I should’ve let him get it this time cause boy was it heavy. First impression: It came beautifully and safely packaged, I may just keep the packaging in case I ever move again. Tips for care and inspiration for the board names are included, which this former Los Angeles resident appreciates very much. As a millennial, I am huge in nostalgia, what can I say? Second impression: woah, this is heavy. I am used to much more light weight and smaller cutting boards (which are frustrating to use, I have broken one in half before). This tells me I am dealing with some nice solid wood here. Third impression: finally! I have found it. The last cutting board I will ever buy. I will be oiling it soon and will report back if any mishaps but otherwise I am confident in this well made product. I will still keep the smaller ones around for when I’m chopping up veggies for lunch so it won’t replace them entirely but this one is good to use for those larger than usual jobs. It’s big enough, thick enough, and the juice grooves will help catch anything leaking out which is super helpful for those shredded chicken tacos I make. I do want to note that this company is more than happy to help you with any inquiries you may have regarding this product. They are really accessible which I appreciate. It makes me feel better to know someone cares enough to seek feedback and provides information on how to use and care for this investment, because that is what this is for me. This brand also carries other sizes in price ranges that fit smaller budgets and needs.

This is a beautiful cutting board. I really wanted dark wood and had my eye on another board, but decided on this one for a few reasons. I'm not sorry. It's quite a piece of art. I keep it standing on the counter (leaning against the wall) and it's just very pretty to look at and I often forget that it's actually a tool to be used. I do use it though. This board is solid and large and pretty heavy. The indentations on the ends make it easy to pick up though. The only reason I don't keep it out on my island, flat and ready to be used, is that we have two Maine Coons that insist on getting up on the island and they would lay on it. Don't want that! I bought John Boos Block Essential Mystery Oil and Board Cream and a Clark's Oil & Wax Round Applicator. I have used just the oil on this board so far. It seems to keep it conditioned nicely and that applicator works for me because it holds any excess oil rather than a rag absorbing it and wasting it. We live in the high desert where it's pretty dry and keeping this board well-oiled/waxed will be key to it not eventually cracking. I don't soak it when washing it either - I wipe it off with a quick rinse of cold water, dry it and then let it stand to finish drying. The board comes in a really nice, heavy duty box that would make it a perfect gift. We saved the box and will use it for something...seemed a shame to throw it away (burn it) so we'll find a use for it. The board isn't going back into the box though!

I do a lot of home cooking as a hobby - including making my own bread, homemade pizza, and smoking foods on my outdoor green egg, etc. After years putting up with cheapo plastic cutting boards and bamboo models that would eventually warp and fall apart I decided I needed something more suited to my needs. I ordered this one model and went with the biggest size that would fit my countertop space so that I'd have the workspace that I wanted. I've gotta say this is one of the best kitchen purchases I've made in a long time. So far I've used it to fold and kneed dough, slice pizza from our backyard oven, and it will easily fit any large size smoked meat cut like brisket or a rib rack etc. Bonus is that one side also has a large juice moat so I won't get my countertop dirty when I slice meats later too. Some of the things I like about it in particular: 1) the weight especially - it doesn't move around when I work on it which allows me to make more aggressive cuts without worrying about cutting myself 2) the handles on the side for easily moving it 3) it's beautiful 4) the moat on one side which I mentioned earlier. 5) if you keep your knives sharp there will be be marks after you cut, but that's a GOOD thing since it means that the board is doing its job protecting your knives...and after a maintenance mineral oil application the marks largely vanish. One thing to be aware of is that due to this version's size it could be a little awkward to fit into your sink for cleaning, it makes it easier if you have a detachable sink wand from your faucet...or what I do is just try and wipe it with a damp towel or cloth instead of sink washing it whenever possible.

Beautiful cutting board that is very large and thick. It did need some oil to bring out the amazing look of the wood, which you will want to do every so often to keep it in nice shape. Great for large gatherings - cutting and for serving. Amazing product for the price! Nicely packaged as a gift.
