Love at First Fight
A pretty enjoyable read, despite it's predictability. Well written, with some genuinely funny moments & silly banter. I found overuse of the term of endearment 'love' really grating - it seemed to age the characters, & just seemed so false & repetitive. It would have been nice to see a little more character & plot development - I didn't feel overly invested in the main characters & I found some their decisions confusing & cliché. I finished the book, but hasn't left me particularly eager to check out the author's other works.

Much to love about this book
Bloody love it! A retelling of a Shakespeare classic, but even without that knowledge, it's a great read. Funny, heartfelt with the zippy and clever dialogue that we know Baker produces each and every time. Romance is the driving force for these characters, and this book is one of her best yet. Devoured it in hours ❤️

A bit of a mixed bag
Enemies to Lovers is my absolute favourite trope, so I was very excited to read this story. There are several genuinely laugh-out-loud moments and also some sweet moments in Love At First Sight. Sadly, there's also quite a lot of toxic masculinity from some of the men, particularly the lead male character. Don't get me wrong. I recognise Ben and Pete. They're the types of men I grew up around. Ben thinks feelings are too 'girly' to talk about, and spas are only for 'people with vaginas'. The problem is, every single time Ben said something like that, I became less and less invested in his story. It's just not an endearing quality and feels antiquated.Meanwhile, his younger brother, Cal, is either the most naive, or stupid person to ever set foot on earth. The situation he finds himself in with his ex feels conveniently placed purely for the drama, but it just doesn't feel authentic. As for Ben and Bridie's declarations? While it's clear they'd long-repressed feelings for one another, to go from hate straight to saying 'I love you' just felt a little simplistic and rushed. Overall it was an okay read, but there were too many annoying characters and scenarios for me to really become invested.*Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to leave an honest review*

Perfect summer read
I really enjoy Mary Jayne Baker's books and this is no exception. It isn't the most unusual story line, and probably fairly predictable as it's loosely based on much ado about nothing, however it is beautifully told and the characters are very believable. The dialogue is witty and fast paced, and each chapter leads you to want to read 'just one more' before you go to sleep so you could be up late into the night.Bridie and Ben have history. Ben stood her up for her prom without explanation. Since then Bridie's love live is abysmal and she is trying for 20 dates in 20 nights to cure her of wanting to date again! Now Bridie's best friend Hattie is marrying Ben's brother Cal. Bridie is the Maid of Honour and Ben is Best Man, and together they are organising the Sten (Stag and Hen) do. Can they put the past behind them and move on?This is a perfect summer story. Non taxing and a fairly quick read.

a fantastic five-star read
Love at First Fight by Mary Jayne Barker a fantastic five-star read. This is funny, and sweet and will make you fall in love with Bridie and Ben as the slowly realise there is such a fine line between love and hate. Bridie, Bridie, Bridie, me think the lady doth protest too much, but in her heart of hearts I can see why she would. It’s a difficult and challenging age for anyone, I would probably be much ruder to Ben!! This is a great story and the way the author weaves the story by the main players giving us their side just plays so well. It did have a couple of minor wobbles, but I was able to see past them into the overall story, and what a story it was. I adore this author and can’t wait to see what they will come up with next.

Enemies to lovers fun!
This was a quick, easy read that I enjoyed as there were a lot of elements that made this book fun:- Enemies to lovers- A wedding- Misunderstandings- Multiple perspectives from the two main couples of the novel- Plotting friends and characters that are oblivious about their feelings- The characters (Bridie, Ben, Hattie and Cal)Bridie and Ben were good characters and I enjoyed seeing them winding each other up and then seeing them both change their views on relationships and dating over the course of the book. This book wasn’t necessarily what I was expecting it to be plot wise, and I didn’t go into it expecting Hattie and Cal’s storyline, however I did enjoy most of their story, aside from the ending as I wasn’t a fan of the ‘cheating’ storyline and I guessed what was going to happen as soon as Johanna came back into the picture.I did enjoy this book, however it probably isn’t one I’d pick up again.

Enjoyable, cheesy read
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for an eArc of this read!I quite enjoyed this book, it was a cheesy, but light-hearted romcom which made it an easy read for me. The characters were quite fun and witty and I enjoyed the multiple POV’s throughout the book. Seeing the story through different perspectives was a fun aspect and I enjoyed it a lot.I think the main issue I had with this read, and it didn’t necessarily put me off, I still enjoyed the book, was the fact that we very quickly switched from Bridie and Bens frenemies(ish) to lovers to Hattie and Cals life drama. It was a little bit too involved for a side plot.I also wish I’d seen more of the 20 dates! Just because I think they could have been hilarious to experience.Overall, I quite liked this romcom. Id definitely read more from this author. A pick-me-up read if you ever need one.
