Plenty sufficient for your needs
This alignment tool is plenty sufficient for your needs. It worked on my 1996 5.7L Mercruiser with Bravo 3 drive. The first time I used it with the supplied instructions it got me exactly where the cables needed to be so no further adjustments were required after the initial install. The item I received is made of 7/32 acrylic and is laser cut on a CNC. Maybe the original tool is made of metal (for guys who own their own marine mechanic shops), but for the occasional use DIY’er it’s fine. Metal is not required for a simple alignment tool like this. For those who are complaining about the integrity… you’re not using it right if you are flexing it beyond it’s yield point. This item is used flat and never needs to be flexed.I’ve run a plastics machine shop for 20 plus years and I give this product two thumbs up!

Broke Before I Could Use It!
I had it, and a couple of other tools in my hand climbing into the boat, and it snapped at one of the notches. Cheap piece of crap acrylic. So I went into my shop, found a piece .050” aluminum, traced this out onto the aluminum and made my own.

It'll work, but it's just a cheapo clear plastic version.
Its a kinda cheaply made clear plastic version of the Merc tool. I was kinda disappointed it didn't come as pictured, or a sturdier version or aluminum version like pictured. For the price, i had expected a little better quality out of it.

Cheap acryilc broke in first 5 min of use.
The one I received was made of Acrylic, one if the notches was not machined correctly and when I tries to line it up on that notch it broke in two.
