This is a body hair trimmer, not a beard trimmer or for haircuts.
This product is specialized for one purpose only - to trim and/or shave body hair, including pubic hair, etc. My first (and so far, only) use of this product was very educational. I will share my experience here. I began by shaving around my anus, the perineum (the area between the anus and scrotum), the shaft of my penis, and the area surrounding my penis. I used no guard for all of these operations, with no nicking or cutting of the skin. I shaved the areas dry, not wet. When I attempted to shave my scrotum, without the guard, I did receive a few small nicks and cuts. Nothing serious, but as careful as I was, I was not successful at shaving the scrotum safely. Instead, I purchased a Venus 3 blade razor, and successfully, safely, and quickly was able to shave my scrotum a few days later, using shaving creme, with only one minor nick (not even really a nick) at the base of my penis, due to not being careful enough. The nick was so small it was negligable. That being said, do not use the trimmer to shave your scrotum unless you use the minimal attachment that comes attached to the trimmer when you open the box. You can use the trimmer, with the guide attached to it, to shave the longest part of the hairs on your scrotum to about 1/4 inch. At that point, if you wish to have a smooth scrotum, use some shaving cream with the Venus 3 blade shaver. As far as body hair trimming goes, I shaved my armpits without any attachment, and made them smooth. I also shaved small areas of my shoulders and back with no attachments. For the chest and stomach areas, I think the minimal attachment, is best, unless you wish to shave those areas smooth, in which case you can safely do so with no attachments on the trimmer. All of your shaving with this trimmer should be done dry, with no shaving creme, water, etc. Only use shaving creme or soap to shave the scrotum, with a Venus 3 blade razor - pulling the skin taut, as you do so, so you do not cut or nick yourself. For the job this trimmer is designed to do, I give it an A+. Just don't believe the other reviews which state that you can shave your scrotum without an attachment - believe me, you will probably get some nicks on your scrotum if you follow their advice. Using the Venus 3 blade shaver for my scrotum and shaft of my penis only took less than 5 minutes to complete, with shaving creme, in the bathtub. The battery lasts for a long time. I think my first session took at least 40 minutes, doing my whole body, and the battery had not died yet. The trimmer comes with a two-year manufacturer's warranty, so I doubt you will need the Additional Asurion warranty that is offered. However that's a personal choice. The manufacturer's warranty is very good, and covers worn out parts like the trimmer teeth and batteries, which are a biggie, because the batteries are ni-cad, not lithium. Overall, I can say that I highly recommend this trimmer, for its intended uses only.

Excellent BodyGroomer replacement, but with some caveats.
I've been buying various Norelco Body Groomers for the last 10+ years and have always been kind of disappointed with their performance. My last dual-sided unit finally gave up the ghost on the trimmer side, and I was ready to try something new. I've always wanted one of the Panasonic hair shavers and just use one of those, but the price kept me away. For the record: I'm a white male with at best described "fine" to medium body hair, so your results may vary if you have very coarse, thick hair. The box has two guards in addition to the standard guard. If you're coming from the Body Groomer like me, the initial silver guard runs a trimming length more or less the same length as if you were running guard free on the "trimmer" side, but with the benefit of having an actual guard on it, which is helpful if you've ever taken a chunk of your skin with the Philips unit. The teeth on the Panasonic trimmer are much much finer than the BodyGroomer, so guard free trimming will get pretty close to a smooth shave, but more on that later. I found it worked best on the neck and below. Using the guard end on my upper lip/face was rather disconcerting, but it might just be a personal feeling kind of thing. Doing my chest/groin/the few shoulder hairs/armpits was fine, if much easier because of the guard on it, and the ergonomics felt better. Trimming my arm hair (I don't really do it that often, but felt like testing the trimmer out) was more of a long winded chore like any other trimmer of this type, but I found I didn't have to go back and forth over the same spot so much as I did with the Philips, even when new. Doing my legs (bike racer here) with the narrow head though, was a long process, and it'd be faster honestly if you just stuck with a razor. On a side note, I really liked the fact the trimmer charger was part of a plug stand instead of having an ugly cable with a barrel connector, which cuts down the bathroom cabinet clutter. I don't particularly like lubricating the blade. I know any good trimmer requires proper lubrication for good cutting, but coming from 10+ years on the body groomers with no need for lubrication makes disassembly and reassembly sort of feel odd. Some angles get a little awkward with the toothbrush angle versus the straight style. The included travel bag is pretty cheap feeling and barely above a ziplock bag as far as quality goes. Long term support/battery life is yet to be determined, but I'm pretty much convinced by the quality it cuts. Nice job, Panasonic!

Good Trimmer, blade not durable
Trimmer is nice but the blade is not durable. The blade teeth broke after a few months or light use.

Durable and long lasting
I bought it in 2018 and it still works. I just bought another one for my son Practically it works good on your balls, no pain and it’s good for shaving your back because of the handle location you can reach far around to your back. Good for all around the private area because of the shape. It’s easy to maneuver It’s a good compliment to an all purpose trimmer shaver. If you are only going to get one this might not be it. It doesn’t cut through thick hair well. It’s not meant for that.

Smooth and Bloodless
Would give ten stars if I could. Listen—the terrain I’m dealing with has been straight up lacerated in ways that made the bathroom look like a surgical suite in a B movie. The cleanup was tedious and the healing was a horror. So I tried a new trimmer—and just trimmed up with this (my old one was a Braun) and I was a little buzzed going into this, ngl, not cross faded but a buzz—anyway, not a single nick and the trim is as close as a 1a at the barber. Not one nick. That’s all I wanted—to not bleed out everytime my GF was coming over. Got that and it’s close and smooth and yep—works. Worth every penny. Ten stars. Def recommend. Smooth and bloodless—what else do you need?

Stop searching for any other trimmer for the boys and get this one.
Honest review time... I bought this for “the boys”. I spent a week researching every brand, meant for below the waist grooming. I have tried many different types and many different trimmers, and honestly I found “the one”... I got tired of using razors and getting cuts, or having razor heads get clogged up. I have tried other trimmers that cut the boys. I have tried numerous other options. I got tired of razor burn down in the nether regions. I got tired of itchiness as the hair begins to grow back. This trimmer is my favorite purchase of 2019. It doesn’t cut, especially if you use as directed with the silver guard. If you’re careful and use it in less sensitive areas down below, you don’t even need the guard and it still doesn’t cut. I was brave and even tried it without the guard on the boys (which is not recommended by Phillips), just to see if it would cut, and with a sense of caution and wise use of techniques such a “the bat wing”, I didn’t have any troubles or cuts. It can cut through hair easily and doesn’t pull either. Obviously go slow cus if you try to rush, it can certainly pull. When trimming the boys, why would anyone want to rush a sensitive job anyways?? I follow the same routine as I do if I used a razor. After trimming, I shower, after shower I use an after shave lotion from Dove for men. That’s it. No more razor burn, no more itchiness, no more cuts, no more pain, 3x faster than a razor, better performance and mobility than a razor, 10x better job than a razor, and no more hassle. This trimmed is supposed to last 3 years, but I will always buy it again and again and again when it does die.

Great Groomer
Absolutely the best body groomer I’ve ever used. Great for all upper body. If you don’t want to completely shave your legs the attachment included does an incredible job of grooming without shaving. Doesn’t nick or cut. It’s pricey but worth it.

What a freaking joke
I bought this because The Wirecutter recommended it. What a joke that turned out to be. Everything about this product is terrible. Start with the battery. It's NiMH, not lithium ion. Ancient tech, lower capacity. Takes ages to charge. I thought we were done with this. There's a reason that every laptop, phone, gadget in the last several decades uses lithium ion, but Panasonic missed that memo. The charger is some kind of perverse prank. It has no cord, it expects you to find a wall outlet with enough room to stick this gigantic thing against the wall. The charge time rating printed on the cutter is 20 hours. 20 HOURS. The charger output is rated for 50-60 mA, which puts the term "trickle charge" to shame. Oh and it weighs a ton, too -- old school brick style. Any old ordinary USB charger will output 40x that current and weigh almost nothing. This design is an embarrassment. When you try to take the clipper out of the charger, it falls out of the wall socket. So that's great as well. Did you intend to travel? Well I hope you planned on carrying this weighty brick of a charger with you, because the clipper uses a proprietary connector. You can't use anything but their special charger with it. If you lose the charger, you're screwed. Do you know how many problems could be solved if this thing didn't have a 20 year old design and had a USB C port and li-ion battery? It would charge faster, last much longer, you could use any charger, you would not have to bring a special charger with you, it would not require unobstructed wall space, etc. Did I mention the charger isn't even multi-voltage / universal?! Traveling to somewhere with 230V? Well forget it, you can't use this. Unbelievable. It supports 100V and 120V only. Again, any old USB charger that you find on Amazon will be multi-voltage these days. I was prepared to accept all of the above if the clipping experience was good. It was not. I had cuts that drew blood WHILE USING THE GUARD. I didn't dare use the bare cutting edge, I can only imagine the rivers of blood in that case. It was not a remotely close or smooth trim either. The storage case is a complete afterthought. Extremely lightweight waxy cloth material with a cheap zipper that fits only the clipper, not the charger. But remember, you'll be lugging that brick with you anywhere you go, so I guess you're expected to just have that separately. The construction is cheap plastic. If you were expecting something up-market for the price like maybe a ceramic blade, forget it. Everything about this is cheap, cheap, and old. And all for the low, low price of... wait, $75? That's more than the vast majority of trimmers on the market. What kind of scam is this? The ONLY good thing about this product is the head is angled in a novel way. EVERYTHING else is ancient, obsolete tech. I'm sure you can find a junk trimmer at the dollar store that cuts about as well as this thing, and probably charges in less than 20 hours too.
