Like most folks, we occasionally go on trips. This fit the need that we had so that we knew that our fish were being fed for the duration of the time that we were gone (and then some). Each kid has a fish tank, so we bought 2 of these and have learned that they are equally good at helping make sure the fish get fed daily even when we are not away on a trip. The rotating feed barrel is large enough to hold quite a bit of food. There is a portioning control that sits at the top and you can easily adjust this as needed. We are very happy with this product.

Using the sticky double sided disk to adhere to the top of the lid, this held it place great (might not be easy to remove) Just make sure you've got the food exit in the right spot to hit the small opening for beta tank lids. It took a few times using the manual button and a piece of paper to catch the food, to get it in the right spot before sticking it down.The next challenge is adjusting the opening for the right volume of food, but this is based on the type of food you use. I first tried with beta pellets at the smallest opening, but that was still way too much food for a single beta. Smallest opening was a bit too small for just flakes, so I mixed flakes and pellets (80%/20%) to get just the right single pinch amount for daily feeding.I also used the manual several times to make sure it was always dispensing the right amount. For a cheap unit it is not bad, IF you take the time to set it up right.The next issue was "trust", but verifying it really was working every 24 hours. I took to balancing a stir straw on the top, so I could see that it had actually rotated every day. I did this for 1 week and it worked perfectly.Great buy for the price, as long as you take the time to tweak everything just right.

Recently, I purchased the FYD Automatic Fish Feeder for my small fish tank with high hopes of convenient feeding and peace of mind during vacations. However, after an extensive trial period, I regret to say that this product failed to meet even the most basic expectations.Unreliable Feeding Schedule:One of the main features of the FYD Automatic Fish Feeder is its adjustable feeding timer. Unfortunately, the timer function proved to be highly inconsistent. There were instances when the feeder dispensed food far too frequently, leading to overfeeding and subsequently dirty water. Conversely, there were occasions when the feeder failed to release any food at all, leaving my fish hungry and causing concern for their well-being. The unreliable feeding schedule was a significant letdown and resulted in added stress and extra maintenance for me.Inefficient Dispensing Mechanism:The feeder utilizes a dispensing mechanism to release the fish food. However, this mechanism often experienced clogs or jammed, leading to irregular food distribution. It was frustrating to find that chunks of food were stuck inside the feeder, preventing a consistent flow. Additionally, the dispenser was not designed to accommodate different types of fish food, making it difficult to switch between pellet sizes or different food varieties. This limitation greatly restricted the feeder's versatility and convenience.Battery Life and Maintenance Issues:Another key aspect that disappointed me was the short battery life of the FYD Automatic Fish Feeder. Despite using high-quality batteries, the feeder required frequent replacements, sometimes lasting only a few weeks. This became a hassle and an additional cost, adding to the overall frustration of using the product. Moreover, the feeder's design made it challenging to clean, with no easy access to the dispensing mechanism. Consequently, leftover food residue accumulated, risking contamination and compromising the health of my fish.Lack of Durability and Build Quality:The overall build quality of the FYD Automatic Fish Feeder was subpar. The plastic housing felt flimsy and vulnerable to damage. Even with careful handling, the feeder exhibited signs of wear and tear within a short period of use. Moreover, the mounting mechanism provided limited stability, often resulting in the feeder becoming dislodged from its intended position. This instability posed a risk of accidental spills or falling into the tank, endangering the fish and creating unnecessary mess.Ineffective Customer Support:To add to the disappointment, the customer support provided by FYD was far from satisfactory. When I reached out to address the issues I was facing with the feeder, I encountered significant delays in response times. Moreover, the solutions provided were generic and did not effectively address the specific problems I encountered. This lack of efficient customer support only added to the frustration and left me feeling unsupported as a consumer.Safety Concerns:Aside from the performance issues, I also had concerns regarding the safety of the FYD Automatic Fish Feeder. There were instances where the feeder's motor produced excessive heat, which made me worry about potential risks such as fire hazards. The lack of proper ventilation and insulation in the design was alarming, especially considering the close proximity to water in an aquarium environment. This safety issue further eroded my confidence in the product.Comparison to Competitors:Having tried various fish feeders over the years, it is evident that the FYD Automatic Fish Feeder falls significantly behind its competitors in terms of quality and reliability. Other brands offer more robust and efficient dispensing mechanisms, customizable feeding schedules, and improved battery life. It is disappointing to see that FYD did not meet the standards set by its competitors and failed to deliver a product that stands up to scrutiny.Recommendations for Improvement:In order for the FYD Automatic Fish Feeder to become a more viable option for fish owners, there are several areas that require improvement. Firstly, enhancing the reliability of the feeding timer is crucial. This can be achieved through rigorous testing and ensuring that the timer mechanism functions accurately and consistently. Secondly, the dispenser should be redesigned to accommodate various types and sizes of fish food, enabling users to customize their feeding requirements. Additionally, increasing the battery life and implementing a more accessible and easy-to-clean design would greatly enhance the overall user experience. Lastly, investing in better build quality and stability, along with addressing safety concerns, would make the product more durable and trustworthy.Conclusion:Regrettably, my experience with the FYD Automatic Fish Feeder was extremely disappointing. Its unreliable feeding schedule, inefficient dispensing mechanism, short battery life, maintenance difficulties, and lack of durability all contributed to a frustrating and unsatisfactory user experience. As an aquarium enthusiast, I value products that provide convenience and peace of mind, but this particular fish feeder fell far short of my expectations. I cannot recommend the FYD Automatic Fish Feeder and would advise potential buyers to explore alternative options that offer greater reliability and quality.

Lessons learned on this accidental experiment: 1) some fish in planted tanks can stay alive & well without traditional food for 10 days & tiny fish food doesn’t work well or you end up over-feeding & risking dead fish later. (Pics are over-fed bottom of tank, size of fish food & opening on feeder). NOTE: Feeders work great without any mechanical problems. Test before you leave though with manual button.I have 6 planted fish tanks & was leaving for 10 days. I read good reviews & bought for each tank. I came home to find I never opened up the fish food opening on feeders on 3 of the feeders & amazingly all those fish were alive & fine. They must’ve eaten off the algae on plants I’m guessing (I have bettas, tetra & guppies). Unfortunately the tanks that did get fed were over-fed big time & one tank had 4-5 dead fish & the water smelled awful & was clouded up. The other fed fish tank had way too much uneaten food on the bottom of the tank. To be fair, I use tiny granules for fish food & even the smallest opening in fish feeder STILL dumped too much food in. I spent 2 hrs cleaning up the fish tank with dead fish & another hour on the other over-fed fish tank.
