GREAT, low-cost snare drum upgrade!
I have a Ludwig Supralite 4"x14" snare drum. The factory strainer was a cheap P85 knock-off and WAY too big for a 4" deep drum. The snare wire/straps would make contact with the bottom of the hoop opening before releasing enough to clear the drum properly, resulting in having no way to disengage the snares completely. Crappy design, I must say, so I decided to replace with a proper piccolo strainer. I had to drill new holes, but since I only paid $100 for the drum (used), I figured why not. Although my holes weren't the most accurate (no drill press), the install went smoothly. And, now I have a fully-functioning, super-fat sounding Supralite in my snare drum arsenal!

Useless
The cord isn’t long enough to properly attach to either of my snares. Waste of time and money.

Not 3/4" hole spacing as stated
However by putting it in a vice I reduced the hole spacing to 3/4". Because of the construction this modification is possible but I am at a loss as to why BOTH of the Gibraltar strainers I bought have the wrong hole spacing cited.

good idea with two minor issues
These are a smart idea. Of course these will be more durable and could possibly last a lifetime. they are thin enough to be flexible and smooth so that they won't cause any cutting or poking. They have two minor drawbacks...I use a couple of classic Rogers dynasonic snare drums with original snare rails, and these are not long enough to easily use. I needed to use two for the butt plate side (I left the original cords on the strainer side). I would say that if you have a strainer set a bit higher up the shell you will need to use all four in the pack on a single drum. They should make them just a bit longer. The other problem is that since they are slicker and a bit stiffer than regular cords, they are not as easy to grip and pull taught, so installation is a little trickier. However, considering that in the long run you probably won't need to take the time to replace them ever again, the extra time taken to install them initially pays off in the long run.....I will probably buy more for all my other snares.

Would repurchase
Easy to install on piccolo snare. I put it on a 13" Mapex. Works well. Solid piece of mechanics.
