Big Waves - Five Decades of Surf Rock

Great to hear the surf music I grew up with. Sent the CD to my friend in New Zealand for his radio show.Believe it...there are GOOD surfing spots in NZ!!

Good album, but a lot of the modern stuff is a lot weaker (except for the Aqua Velvets) and just doesn't hold up to the old classics. If you haven't already got it, start your surf rock collection with SURFERS' CHOICE by Dick Dale. THAT is the single greatest surf collection of all time!

I never get tired of listening to this CD. My favorite time is driving around with the top down, with "Big Waves" turned up loud. This is a stellar collection of classic surf songs, with some new ones at the end. "NY '79", by Laika and the Cosmonauts is one of the new ones, and it is brilliant. Read the track list and if you know surf, you'll see what a great collection it is. If you don't know surf, this is a great introduction. Listen to the amazing guitar work, and then ask yourself, "What is surf, anyway? What makes a song a surf song?". I still haven't figured it out, but I love this CD.

An all instrumental CD except the first song by the Beach Boys. Although it's only one disc, it goes pretty deep into the genre. A good buy for those in need of a surf music fix. Personally, I would have liked more songs with vocals but that's just my personal quirk. I'm glad it's now part of my music collection.

This compilation has not only some classics, but some updated and innovative covers of classics, and some truly modern surf music. My guitar buddy and I have been playing these tunes and highly recommend this compilation for those re-discovering the joy of surf.

CD includes liner notes for each track with lots of trivia and back ground info on the Artists and sometimes includes what inspired the writing of the music!The second in a series produced by Starbucks.A big thank you to Starbucks for both of these CD's.
