1,001 Math Problems (1001 Series) 4th Edition

After so many years of not doing routine math, some of the skills become fuzzy. This is a fun and non-intimidating way of building up those skills, practice problem after problem, from basic math to Geometry. Good way to keep the mind flexible.

It was so helpful that I recommended to our literacy/GED prep volunteers. I believe they have ordered at least two more copies.

The problems in this book are probably good for getting up to speed if you're in training for the GMAT or GRE. However, they do not test mathematical concepts to any extent.The Kindle version becomes a little cumbersome when going back and forth to check your answers. Since solutions are not hyperlinked in the text, you have to type in the approximate location of the solution, and that becomes more time-consuming than need be.

Love math. Should have kept it as a major.

As a certified teacher who chooses to homeschool my teens, it is difficult for me to be content with curriculum choices. Although the homeschool math curriculum choices typically provide a decent lesson, they often do not contain a spiral review. To aid this concern, we use 1001 Math Problems by Learning Express along with Daily Mental Math by Didax on a daily basis. (Although I did choose to create a list of problems to complete each day, so that the workbook was used for a spiral review.) For my struggling math student, who lives with traumatic brain injury, this once intimidating text is almost conquered after his 10th grade year.

This book is really a good tool for review, reinforcement and tutoring. It has 6 sections : miscellaneous problems (basic operations to easy Pre-Algebra concepts) fractions, decimals, percentages, Algebra and Geometry. Each section is divided in 10 to 12 sets of questions ranging from easy to fairly complex. I would say that, roughly, in the first set you tackle basic concepts (+/- 6th grade), then it gradually progresses to more advanced problems (+/-9th grade). All answers are provided with explanations, methods, tips and possible reasons why you got it wrong. There is an opportunity for good practice in this book, I recommend it.
