A DIY woodworking project to make it usable (Edit: it's fine now)
Edit: I contacted CRKT customer service and they very quickly sent me a whole new axe, not just a new handle. The new one is great and I have no complaints remaining. That kind of customer service goes a long way. Axe head is cool and looks decent for outdoor use despite being a little narrow in the taper. It's respectably sharp; I could use it out of the box for processing wood or throwing. The handle, on the other hand, is trash. It's turned down way too much; comically narrow. It's dangerous in this state, and doesn't come with wedges or anything to correct it. The finish isn't great either, and I can feel some splinters when I run my hand along it. The price is too high for a somewhat-cool axe head and a DIY wood project to make it usable. Not recommended.

Amazing quality
I thought this is a birthday present for my husband and he absolutely loves it. The quality is exceptional and I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

Great for the money, but CRKT needs to finish the handles and sharpen the blades better.
Overall, I want to give this five stars, because the overal design is a good one. The weight is on the heavy side for a hawk, so it will be more useful in bush crafting, but less practical as a dedicated "weapon" which is fine. Hawks are always meant to be a mix of both. Most dedicated weapon axes were too light and thin to really be a good ax, though they could certainly be used more than a sword for bushcraft. But let's be honest, we don't live in the dark ages, we just want something that we can use to do some woodworking around the camp, do some throwing, martial arts here and there maybe, and maybe scare away the boogeyman if he shows up. Out of the box, the edge was pretty shabby, my guess is CRKT wants you to put the edge on it you want, because a tomahawk really should be knife-sharp, maybe not scalpel-sharp, but it's not meant to be a huge forest ax that needs a very robust edge. Still, I have bought cheap full-size axes from home depot that came sharper than this. So again, not sure why CRKT does this consistently with all their axes, meanwhile their knives usually ship very decently sharp. *shrug* Still IMHO it wasn't enough by itself to deduct a star. The final straw comes from the handle, which aesthetically I DO appreciate, it's got a really nice dark stain that complements the blackened blade so well It's great. But it lacks any kind of poly finish, meaning it doesn't feel finished, it feels like raw exposed wood. Maybe they oiled it? It doesn't look or feel like it at all. Just bone dry unfinished but stained wood. I can of course do that myself, but the problem is, the lack of a decent finish coating means this style of hickory really splinters easily while you use it. I have already spent several sessions plucking splinters out of my hands just from idle manipulation and inspection of the axe. If I were to put it to use I would HAVE to wear gloves. Now normally I probably would anyway, but I don't want to HAVE to wear gloves just to handle it. I tried swapping handles with another CRKT, and though I am sad to lose the dark finish, it handles much better, and I can swing it around barehanded without getting splinters. I may just decorate the other handle instead of refinishing and sealing the one it came with and strip the finish and patina instead so it looks more complementary with the wood. I have not put it to use yet, but I own 2 other CRKT hawks, a chogan and a nobo. This feels just like the chogan in terms of weight, and I suspect will split about as well. But it has a nice long beard/blade so that should really make it more useful to me. Overall, I definitely recommend it, but you will want to fix the edge, and either give it a different handle or refinish the one they give you with something to help with splinters.

The head will take a beating before needing to be sharpened
CRKT did this good. The steel is very nice. I chopped up a few logs for firewood with ease. Still sharp. The handle is a different story. It's like an exact fit all the way to the top of the handle, and flush with the head. There's like no room to push more handle through to get more secure. That said, just stake it and add some wood glue. The handle is strong and light. I added some cord and made a handle for it just to get a better grip.

Handle doesn't fit properly.
Only reason for 3 stars is that the handle of the ax has too small of taper on end that goes in Ax head. Yes I put the proper end in but head doesn't seat until it's almost half way in the head of ax. Quality of ax head is good though, so I will make a handle for it. Also product is not made in USA as claimed, It's a product of Taiwan, clearly marked on box delivered in.

Solid
Takes a beating, balanced well, heavy and solid but not unwieldy. Processes wood well, the head can be removed easily for ferro rods or other more close up tasks, the handle is an ideal length and the factory edge is decent. Consider the other CRKT hatchets as well, as they all are good, but I prefer this one.

Handle is trash but the axe head is great
The handle it comes with is trash ! It spins I have it down as far as it can the head is digging into the the handle and it still turns very dangerous and poor craftsmanship of the handle ! The axe head itself is very well built came sharp I had to buy a sheath made by crkt for it ! It does not come with a sheath you will have to buy it or make it ! Very sharp out of box and nice size the handle makes it not worth the money
