Not Much More Than Expected, but Practical and Well-Designed
I got this for my 2-year-old niece's birfday because her mum and dad are lettin' her wavy long hair grow out and it seemed like a good deal for a well-designed book.Skimming through it, I'm glad I got it, and the designs are clear and there's a nice mix of illustrations and actual photos.A 2-year-old's birfday party isn't really the place for sitting down and going through all the details, but they all seemed to like it.The spiral bound design makes it easy to stay open to a page, which I figure should be pretty helpful when trying one of the braid styles and following the instructions. As an adult engineer/scientist/programmer, I can never have too many instructions, too many diagrams, or too much detail. I could nitpick that there could be more styles or more detailed diagrams, but looking around at what else is available -- without scouring used book stores -- I think as a brand new buy, this is a well-designed, straight-forward, informative, and easy to use book. And for under 10 dollars, you get something well designed and practical, and despite the world of the internet, it's sometimes nice just to have something to hold onto -- especially for distracting a little kid and keeping them still and focused while you do whichever hairdid they pick.I think her mum and dad would much rather appreciate having her hold a book with the design/instructions than a laptop :P

This is a great book for younger girls to learn how to take ...
This is a great book for younger girls to learn how to take care of their hair. It also shows how to do some hair styles and braiding. I like the way the book is laid out. It is easy to read and keeps their interest. The binding and pages are good quality. I love the American Girl books and the topics they cover. I am not really good with braiding or hair styling. This book helps my daughter to practice these things on her or her friends hair without having to go online. It also answers questions and gives information.

Great for 8-12 year old girls, message is LOVE YOUR HAIR
The first few pages of this book describes that one of the rules of hair... is to love YOUR hair that you have. Great message, the rest is fun stuff for girls to learn, what "kind" of hair they have, and how to best take care of it. This is really great for dads raising girls, as there actually ends up being a lot to this hair care stuff! Good buy for young girls, plus good illustrations, messaging, and format.

confidence building and enables independence
My seven year old daughter has loved this book. She has devoured it for a month now. She does her own hair in the morning now, which is confidence building and it gives her added independence. The instructions are great. The hair tips are solid, and they mean more because it’s not me—mom!—lecturing about hygiene and style.

Good book for kids.
Granddaughter (age 8) really likes this book and the information/styles included. Hairstyles are simple enough to follow and nice for little girls. Plus hair care information is a good resource.
