Are the dots in the picture tritium, or do you have to shine a flashlight at it to make them glow?

The dots are not tritium, they must be glowed with light.

Will using your cell phone while wearing this, only alter the functionality for the time that you're close to the compass? Or, will it be destroyed

I have a Samsung A50 in a rubber protective case. In my experience even with the phone a few inches away my compass still pointed north. I didn't surf the web or make any calls at the time though. But in theory, if your phone did have a magnetic field that made the compass malfunction, moving the phone further away should correct the problem. It should not be permanent.

Does this compass normally come with "foggy" sidewalls, or did i (and "jth" (see his or her 18 jan 2019 comment)) receive a defective unit?

I don’t know what foggy sidewalls would mean, but I use this compass for hiking and it is clear and accurate, and has a very nice wristband.

Is the band width 26 mm

The width of the band is 20 mm.
