Live at the Village Vanguard

Perfect.

Music reflects the moods of the times and in our society today we are in a sour, dour, criminalistic mood. Virtue and ethic are out the window. The music of today is corporate rubbish [hasn't it always been?] with few exceptions.This release recorded in 1984 at New York City 'Village Vanguard' is fine Jazz. The moods of the times are conveyed compositionally and instrumentally. To me this is what Jazz is: an aural method of clarification of the times and perhaps the soul of the performer / composer. The interplay of the musicians reflects (to me), sounds of life. Listen and perhaps you will hear as well.Michel Petrucciani and his trio (Palle Danielsson, Bass, Eliot Zigmund, Drums) expressed hope and warmth to the audience that night at the 'Village' (I wish I had been in attendance).My favorite track is number six. It is reminiscent of a lovely tune on the Pianism CD entitled "The Prayer".This release was originally on the Concord record label as a part of the George Wein Collection. I purchased the original CD used because I could not locate a new copy. Blue Note Records wisely re-released this long-awaited masterpiece.This is sensitive artistry using man's greatest language of music. This release is masterful genius.

This live album from 1984 (MP was twenty two) recorded faithfully by Blue Note is a thorough delight. This is an early trio album (many of his recordings are solo performances) with Palle Danielsson, bass and Eliot Zigmund, drums. The trio play with extraordinary empathy as they tackle some demanding tunes, such as Coltrane's "Oleo". There are four Petrucciani "originals" plus four other tunes e.g. "'round Midnight".It isn't just that MP is technically brilliant and a wonderful improviser, a genuine master of the jazz piano but the fact that he suffers a genetic spinal disease that has caused dwarfism that makes his skills so much greater.This is truly an astounding album!

Questo è uno dei migliori live di un artisdta molto compiantoi che aveva, a mio avvisoi, proprio nelle esibizioni dal vivo il suo punto forte.Assolutamente consigliuatto assime a "Solo Live" per avere una buona visione dell'artista in trio ed al pianoforte solo.

Ci sono brani che da soli valgono l'acquisto, le atmosfere di questo CD sono ineguagliabili. Peccato solo non poter avere l'incisione master su vinile.

Sentire Petrucciani da gioia al cuore ed alla mente. Purtroppo non è più con noi ma la sua musica lo sarà per sempre.

Bellissimo ottimo stile , mi è piaciuto moltissimo , lo definirei come un disco di musica molto ispirato e senz' altro da consigliare .

pezzo da collezione, per chi ama i live questo è un album bellissimo,suonato divinamente, fa parte della serie Blue note.

E' semplicemente Petrucciani!!!Grandissimo concerto al Village vanguard di NYC . Cd da non perdere

録音当時は聴いていなかったアルバムですが少し力み過ぎの感じがします。まだ若い時期だったからでしょうか。サイドメンはそれなりに良い仕事をしてると思います。

天才ピアニストの若干２２歳の時のアルバム。溢れるようなリリシズムにテクニック。マイルス・デイビスの名曲「ナーディス」のメロディーを分解、再構成、原曲のメロディーを隠すように演奏し、ペトルチアーニ独自の展開を見せる。生まれながらの短い体躯のハンディーを微塵も感じさせない。「ラウンド・ミッドナイト」も原曲から遠く離れ、独自の「ペトルチアーニ・ワールド」を聴かせる。６曲目の「トラブル」も美しい。１９６２年に生まれ、１９９９年、わずか３７歳で生を終わらせた。実に惜しい天才の夭折。もう美しい音色もＣＤでしか聴けない。（松本敏之）

ビルエヴァンスとはまた違った緊張感のある演奏。ライブならではのおおらかさもあり、楽しめる。

存命中にライブで聴きたかった。私の大好きなNardisから始まって、やはり大好きなラウンドミッドナイトでおわる。ビレバンに居る気分を味わえました。これからコレクションしてゆきたいとおもいました。

ミシェル・ペトルチアーニのピアノの、何が魅力的かというと、素晴らしいテクニックもそうですが、やはりあのドライブ感と、澄んだ、力強い音色だと私は思っています。このライブでもそれらは遺憾なく発揮されており、比較されがちなエヴァンスとはまた違う独特な、そして素晴らしい演奏を繰り広げています。　晩年にもペトルチアーニは、スティーブ・ガッドと、アンソニージャクソンとのトリオを組んでおり、こちらも良いトリオでしたが、このアルバムの、パレ・ダニエルソンとエリオット・ジグムンドとのトリオもまた渋く、激しい演奏で聴き応えがあります。初めの「ナーディス」〜「オレオ」の流れも良いのですが、私は５曲目のペトルチアーニの自作曲が気に入っています。ダニエルソンのベースラインが格好いいですし、ペトルチアーニのアドリブも最高に決まっています。

ペトルチアーニがもっともすごかった頃の一枚｡NARDIS～OLEOの流れやその後の展開も鬼気迫るものがあります｡バックのPalle DanielssonやEliot Zigmundが彼のプレイの為だけに演奏している気持ちが伝わってきます｡ペトルチアーニのファンにはまず聴いて欲しい一枚です
