Safety First
I love this helmet. I ride an ebike that is very heavy. Its not always safe to go one handed and signal a turn. This allows me to be very predictable to cars. Its also attention grabbing, increasing the chance that a distracted driver might see me.

Pretty heavy, Nice Features
I've been wanting something like this since I started bike commuting a few years ago. This helmet does what is says on the tin, but for me, it’s not perfect.First, here’s what I liked: The helmet seems exceptionally well made; it’s really tight and solid. And it fits comfortably. The remote paired quickly, and though the necessary mounting bracket was missing from the packaging, the remote does operate the turn signals on the helmet and, provided it mounts firmly to the handlebars, should be useful. I assume on a road bike I would mount the remote on the tops, so it would be a little inconvenient to use in the drops. But it is what it is; people with hybrid bars shouldn’t have to choose because there is only one hand position on hybrid bars. The various lights are the main attraction here and they work well. There is no doubt in my mind that this helmet will provide more visibility to motorists who often fail to notice us bicyclists. They will notice you. Some of the lighting modes are silly, but choice is good, and sometimes silly is good too. You will still need a bike-mounted headlamp for dark roads, as the headlamp in the helmet will make you more visible, but it won’t light up your path well. There is an app (iPhone and Android) that will allow you to connect to the helmet using Bluetooth to pick the lighting modes and tell you how much battery you have left. There is also an Apple Watch app which I have not tested.By the way, the battery life is fine as long as you’re ok with charging it at the end of every ride. My rides are about 3 hours long and though there might well be enough battery life for a second ride, why take chances? The magnetic charging cable makes it a cinch to charge. On the other hand, it has a proprietary connector, which is as inconvenient as the magnetic part is convenient, so I guess it’s a toss up. Don’t lose the cable, because nothing else will fit. If you commute to work, you might want to buy a second cable for work. Its $10 from Lumos. As far as the styling of the helmet, it’s a matter of taste I guess. My wife thinks it looks like I’m dressing up as a Star Wars character. That’s ok, it could be worse. She didn’t say I look like Jar Jar Binks. The ventilation is fine for the temperate weather we’re having, and I would select this helmet design over most of my others on a cold day. But there is simply not enough ventilation here for hard rides on warm days. I mentioned it fits comfortably, but I didn’t mention how top-heavy it feels. My sample weighs a murderous 595 grams, which is heavier by far than any helmet I’ve owned, including my Bluetooth Sena. Especially for longer rides, this may give you neck pain and slow you down if you’re a pedal bicyclist. Just for reference, this helmet weighs more than twice as much as (and costs four times more than) a Giro Isode with MIPS, which is a good solid entry level name brand bike helmet. Of course, the Isode doesn’t have the cool lights on it.As for the missing piece, I spoke to customer service and after a little back and forth, they agreed to send it, so I’ll be updating this review after testing the remote with the mounting bracket. Finally, there are the instructions. I think they were going for something Apple-like here. The instructions are extremely rudimentary. They expect you to be able to figure everything out from a couple of crude and cryptic drawings. It’s supposed to be intuitive, but it took me some time to work everything out. Some halfway decent documentation would have been much appreciated. Literally, just a few sentences would have helped. But, at the end of the day, it’s a temporary inconvenience. All the documentation you want can be found online. So ultimately, this is a really nice helmet with interesting features that has some tradeoffs. Its top heaviness and lack of ventilation (and, to be honest, its stormtrooper looks) make it balky and a little unappealing to wear for me. But, on the other hand, ignoring the weight, it is a really comfortable fit. It’s close to being good, but the annoying bits bring it down a little, and at $200, it should be lighter and sleeker. I believe this is a four star helmet for electric assisted bicycle users who only ride for 30 or 40 minutes at a time. For pedal pushers who really work out, I feel like it’s too heavy and warm. Wait for a lighter, more road bike friendly version.Edit: I received my replacement part and was able to test the remote. I find it's pretty impractical to use the turn signals on a road bike a lot of the time. However, considering this isn't really a road bike helmet, I'm changing the review from 3 to 4 stars. If you have an E bike or a cruiser that you use in traffic, this is great. If you have a road bike and are concerned about weight. I don't think it's worth it for this iteration.

Great helmet
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. The Lumos helmet is a fantastic gadget for bike lovers, and brings cycling to the digital era. It's a very well made helmet, with built in electronics and smartphone integration.Pros:-- Very lightweight for a helmet that has built in electronics. Very comfortable too.-- Fits nicely and it's very comfortable. Straps can be tightened or loosened up, and it comes with two sets of soft pads for different head sizes.-- Front led light, white color, strong enough to act as a front flashlight to see in the dark.-- Cool futuristic design, supported by the white color of the helmet. I dig it.-- Rear indicator lights. These leds act as a rear light, but also act as an indicator when you want to turn right or left. Turning signals can be activated either by the provided remote, or by the smartphone app.-- Smartphone app that provides customizations. You can change pattern and brightntess for all led lights, both front and back. You can see the battery level of the helmet, control the turning signals etc.-- Via the smartphone app, you can configure motion sensing capabilities that will allow the helmet to act and signal based on your motion/movement. Pretty cool.-- Integration with the Appe Watch via the watch app.-- For the long haired riders out there, the back strap extends and makes room for your ponytail. :)-- Last but not least, this is a crash-tested and certified helmet, which makes you feel more secure wearing it. Don't go out there trying to prove this though... :pCons:-- Just a bit overpriced. Maybe a pricetag around $150 would be more realistic.Overall this is a great helmet and I definitely recommend it. I would remove half a start for the price, but other than that this is an excellent item for the cyclists out there. 4.5/5 stars.

Coolest Helmet I've Ever Seen
The Lumos Matrix is by far the coolest bike helmet that I've ever seen. Any cyclist knows that visibility is key to safe riding, especially on city streets. This helmet addresses visibility with perfection and the customization options with the user-friendly app is seriously top notch. The helmet comes with a remote that connects to the helmet via Bluetooth and mounts to your handlebars for signaling turns. If you have your phone mounted to your handlebars, you can also use the app to signal turns while riding if that was your preference. The app can also toggle between brightness levels and even changing up the patterns on the rear LED panel. It's truly next-level stuff and the future of riding. It's comfortable to wear but is a little on the heavier side compared to your standard bicycle helmets due to the lights and batteries on board. The weight is not overbearing and is understandable given the longevity of the battery life. Overall, I would definitely recommend this helmet - everyone around you will definitely see you coming and will also know which direction you're turning. Ride safely and enjoy!
