Check Wilton's site for tutorials that may help you decide what you want. If you want to do more than an ordinary cake then the answer to making some special cakes is the variety of tips available. This is a great kit!! You might also want to check cake decorating tutorials on You Tube.

Any of the larger size tips should be able to make that type of dessert

Q: Should I buy the 46-Piece deluxe decorating set or the Wilton Decorating Basics Student Kit? I'm a beginner and not taking the classes.

I would start with the basic set if you are a beginner. If you find that you really enjoy decorating cakes and cookies, then you can buy the Deluxe set. Don't worry about having extra tips (by having both the Student Kit and the Deluxe set), because if you really get into it, you will find that having the extra tips is quite helpful.

Q: I bought this to bake my sons birthday cake. when i was ready to decorate i realized i couldn’t assemble the pieces together! there’s no ring!?

This set contains Wilton’s quick twist coupler. It does not look like a normal screw and ring coupler. There are 3 pieces (4 if you count the cover) and they all look fairly conical. Two pieces screw together around the bag opening and then there is the “ring” that holds the tip in place. The “ring” piece is not threaded in the usual sense.
