Q: Can kids younger than 14 play this?

Yes definitely, i’ve played with kids around 13-14 years and they are able to grasp the icons meaning. Might start slow but definitely can be done. Its not text heavy, everything are in icons and its very intuitive.

Q: Does the game scale well for 2 people? If not, what number is the sweet spot?

It’s a great 2-player game. I would say 2 is the sweet spot. BGG actually lists it as best played with 2.
