Is there side pocket for water bottle?

Mine does have a mesh pocket on the side that I use for my water bottles.

Does this back pack have a spot for laptops?

No spot for a backpack like a Swiss Gear, but it will fit a laptop depending on its size. I have a 17.3" that barely fits in it.

How sturdy is it? My son's always rips were where the straps meet the bag. He feels he has to carry everything all the time, need a really sturdy one.

Jansport has a lifetime guarantee. My son carries my 25 year old pack. I carried 50+pounds in that pack for 10 years. It's been redone a few times, but we love it 25 years later.

Why is there two black backpacks with one being $30 more than the other and what is the difference?
