Q: what is the difference between the 580 and the 581H Dewalt vac?

The 581 you can plug in or use the battery feature. The 580 is just battery

Q: what one has more power this or the DC500 18v one ? trying to see if there is any point in upgrading

I just bought this one and I have the dc500. It seems like this might have a bit more power but I'm not sure yet. Either way you will certainly get better performance from the 20v batteries on this vs the 18v battery so it may be worth the upgrade just for that.

Q: Can it be run on 18 volt XPR batteries?

I bought one of these in August 2021 through CPO/Amazon. IT WAS NOT 18 volt XRP COMPATIBLE. DeWalt must have phased out that option in the last few years - BUMMER because I'm deep into 18v tools and batts.

Q: Is there a carpet / upholstery attachment for shampooing?

There is not a carper/upholstery attachment for shampooing that has been approved for use with this device by the manufacturer DEWALT.
