Could anyone tell me the size of the hex bit I need for the short bolt?

The above answer is no longer correct. They are shipping it with new bolts and the shorted hex bolt key is so large I dont have an allen wrench that will fit it..... Larger than 8mm now.

Try taking it to a bike shop & ask them what you're doing wrong. A good shop will tell you how to put it on. Also, look for how to & install videos on youtube

Will this fit a Diamondback Dual Sport?

Yes. It's adjustable, so fit all bikes. I do have GT Transeo Dual Sport and fit perfectly.

Will this work on a Lectric XP 2.0 electric bike?

I doubt it. I think your bike is 20 inch and this is for 24 to 29 inch. Plus, the kickstand requires opening in the frame.
