It works fine for my color treated hair.

Can it be used on a 5 year old?

It's mild so I would say yes but still might cause some irritation, just don't expect it to be like baby shampoo which is very mild.

Does this shampoo cause hair loss? Or make thinning hair worse?

I have not experienced any hair loss or thinning since using this product.
