A great gift!
As a programmer and a huge Star Wars fan, this kit is right up my alley and I was so excited to give it to my niece who is also a huge fan! She loved putting the kit together, connecting it to her parent's iPad, and learning to code. The software provides a great framework that starts fast so kids can see cool results from their code quickly, but it's proved to be surprisingly deep in the time we've spent working on it. My niece has started to grasp some core programming concepts that I hope will start her journey to becoming a programmer like me (okay maybe I'm planning a little too far ahead). The Star Wars tie-in is great, as it got my niece interested in something she otherwise might be hesitant to try! I think the only downside is that my sister and her husband don't see their iPad very much anymore. :)

It doesn’t work
I would advise to not buy this item. The associated app does not work and therefore the purchase would end up being a paperweight. App was contacted and received no response.

Great toy for the Star Wars kid who loves STEM!
We got this for our 8 and 10 yo kiddos who like Star Wars and love doing STEM activities. We’re always looking for something that will get long term use, since it seems like they get bored of most toys within a couple of weeks. It’s been over a month now and it’s still getting sporadic use. They found the tutorials easy to follow and fun to code it to do different things. They only thing I wish is that they could each have their own “account” they could switch between with their own stuff. As it is, it works fine. That’s just a minor thing I think would be handy.

good learning product
bought this for my 6-year-old cousin, he loved the packaging. It didn't work with his windows laptop somehow. We had to setup with mac. But I would prefer harry potter wand if I get it in the same price. This one gets boring after a while.

Constantly freezing app makes this whole thing useless - STAY AWAY
The hardware is fine, or at least it is as advertised. Where this whole thing fails is in its software. The app is pretty bad. It keep freezing in all kinds of ways and places. The only way out would be to kill the app (on iPad) and start again. And then repeat the frustrating experience. It's so bad that my daughter, who had so much excitement about this before, has completely stopped playing with it. In other words, rather than increasing her engagement with a science and coding toy, the manufacturers and designers of this toy have my daughter lose interest in coding. This is unacceptable and highly alarming for a parent. I plead the Kano people to take responsibility for this and do the right thing -- fix the app or refund our money. Until that happens, I urge all parents to stay away from this product. If you care about STEM education for your kids, this thing will do more harm than good.
