I will start off with specific things about this product and then move to general properties of triphala. Banyan Botanicals is not my favorite brand for reasons that are irrelevant to this review. In any case, I find myself coming back again and again for their triphala. Some companies seem to have that one thing or small handful of things that they just got right in every regard; herb sourcing, storage, product rotation, etc. I have tried MANY other brands and have been disappointed. If you think it's supposed to taste "good", you're missing the point. It's supposed to taste PURE. Many other companies sell products that taste like chemicals, pesticides, or mold. Now I will say that microingredients does triphala that is nearly as good, but it is a smaller particle size. It is meant to dissolve in warm water, but the problem is that it won't hold up to the slightest bit of humidity and it will also gum up the zipper of the bag. This triphala is a slightly larger particle size and so is a little grainy, but it's not a rice protein shake. You're only taking a half a teaspoon most of the time (sometimes more, sometimes less). To me, this product it worth its weight in titanium. Triphala is a very ancient Indian herbal compound and is perhaps prescribed by Ayurvedic physicians more than any other. It is a combination of three fruits that individually work to balance a specific constitution, but when combined, balance all three and aggravate none. Flavors are energies that effectuate a specific function and triphala contains all of the 6 flavors. I would call it a gentle detoxifier. It has a tendency to pull toxins from the liver and the digestive tract and will facilitate their removal via the colon. It is nothing like a stimulant laxative, but it will help to ensure regular bowel movements. It has direct and indirect effects that promote the health of the digestive and circulatory systems and pretty much every system of the body. It is safe for everyone and is non-habit forming. Its main action is upon the digestive system and once it helps you to restore balance, you can continue taking it or stop. Needless to say, it is also important to educate yourself about what exactly are healthy eating and digestive habits that brought you to a state of imbalance in the first place. In India there is a saying that goes something like, "If you don't have a mother, the second-best thing you can have is triphala." Triphala has a strong flavor which is typical of many things of a medicinal nature, but you may find that the flavor becomes sweeter over time as your body slowly detoxifies. I only gave this an overall rating because the topic of "flavor" is tricky. It's not necessarily supposed to taste "good" in the common sense of the word. My favorite way to use it is a half teaspoon in a cup of very warm water first thing in the morning. Remember to stir before each sip so you don't end up wasting any of the herbs at the bottom of your glass. **Just a final note on quality. If you are sensitive to it, you will be able to taste which products are grown with pesticides, in contaminated soil, or are not stored properly. With medicines like this, if you are even going to bother to use it, you defeat the purpose of using it if you are buying a toxic product. I have had many good experiences with triphala from Banyan Botanicals, but please rely on your own sense of things. Who knows, anybody can loosen their quality control standards for a quarter here and there to cut costs. I'm not making any accusations but you have to be cautions when your health is somebody else's business.

Purchased this for a re-occurance of IBS-C/ suspected altered bowel ( SIBO ) Although it's been nicely subdued for years, recently experienced a very stubborn issue of IBS/ altered bowel that I was not able to resolve through dosing with Olive Leaf, then oregano oil, and sugarless/carbohydrate/ fruit free and gluten free diet. This was unusual, normally can get things under control if they slightly go astray. Had actually came across some literature on triphala, did further research, decided to order it in powder form despite a couple negative reviews about the condition of the powder. Never heard of it prior. The package arrived quickly, overnight I think, with no packaging or quality issues whatsoever! No lumps, no foreign objects, fine fresh smelling. I took 1/2 tsp dose in lukewarm coffee. Melted in extremely well, fully dissolving. I did not mind the taste at all. Bitter,astringent- but not not at all intolerable. This was in coffee with coconut oil, so no sweetness. Almost immediately, I noticed a spike in energy. It was inexplicable, I had had fatigue for 10 days. It wasn't uncomfortable energy, it was very natural feeling. Like I had a sort of zest and ambition- I guess I would put it as a sense of wellness. I normally feel queasy after drinking coffee too, and got none of that. I won't say it completely settled my stomach but I felt relaxed in my stomach. I did experience some gassiness after eating that day, but did not expect that to disappear immediately. A bowel movement did not result that day from having taken it. I did read that some dose morning and night. So, before bed, I took another 1/2 tsp in my lukewarm CBD infused Chamomile tea. This was a mistake. Even though it was in CBD tea, which normally puts me into deep relaxation, followed by deep sleep- I again experienced a surge of energy. I could not fall asleep at all throughout the night. At about 6am I fell asleep for one hour. I woke at 7 and got out of bed, I had complete energy like I had slept a full night. I actually went out and washed and waxed my car that day. Unheard of. The day went by uneventfully. Slightly lessened gas, a feeling of wellness but no bowel movement that I was REALLY hoping for. Late afternoon I passed some sludgy mud looking excrement. Very thick and like wet cement. Forgive these details but it is product related, Behind the sludge was a normal full buoyant bowel movement. Since I wasn't horribly gassy I decided to eat some broccoli that night. Went to bed on time, fell asleep, next day no bowel movement at all, nor one through out the day. That night, in the wee hours had to get up to take a sludgy bowel movement again. So, things are unpredictable but the system seems to be mysteriously cleansing. But most of all I don't have that excrutiating fatigue and horrible constant lower bowel gas. We will see how this progresses. But please know there is definitely SOMETHING to this stuff. It's not placebo hype. I am very pleased with the quality and the company, they sent a follow up note with Ayurveda Info. Good luck to all in your healing and wellness challenges!

First, for those with questions, the amount of grams per serving is easily resolved. Per the label, the bottle says 3.19 oz or 90 grams and the back label says 90 servings [ 1/2 teaspoon] per container. So every 1/2 teaspoon is exactly one gram according to the products own labeling. Other brands may be providing just a fraction of this in their dosage amounts. So compare costs in equivalent serving amounts from other companies. This traditional herbal blend is potent and one that is quickly becoming one of my favorites for it's multiple health benefits. It makes a noticeable difference. It's considered excellent for even children or elderly - though do your own research. This ancient herbal remedy has powerful "antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial effects". It's fabulous for the skin, aiding both in wound healing and "increases collagen formation". It helps restore healthy enzymes in the stomach. Aids against stress & anxiety, reduces arthritis inflammation. To put it simply, this product works. I highly suggest starting with a smaller than recommended dose and seeing how your body reacts, as I found it to be quite potent. And ladies, if you are looking to take this for, shall we say, colon health, be aware that it is also used at times for issues related to a woman's monthly cycle (as I accidentally discovered). One more thing I think is worthy of mentioning: the taste. I found it absolutely, utterly vile. As in, "can't drink it down quickly because it will make me gag" levels of disgusting. My cod liver oil is tasty in comparison! I managed to take it with some juice through a straw, but if you are sensitive to tastes (bitter in particular), you may want to try this stuff in pill form. I still give this product 4 stars though, because it seems to be potent and effective, and you get a lot of bang for your buck IMHO.

I'm taking Triphala on the recommendation of my Clinical Herbal Practitioner. My experience with this brand for severe constipation: I have suffered with severe, chronic, IBS-A for the past 20 years. When I'm constipated it can be 7-14 days without a BM. Using digestive bitters (first Urban Moonshine and now homemade) over the past 8 months I have gotten rid of all of my IBS-A symptoms other than constipation. Bitters works for some people for constipation also...just not me. I have tried many things to aid in my constipation over the past 20 years and none were successful...until I tried THIS brand and formula of Triphala. The first Triphala that I tried was a highly rated organic capsule (Organic India) found here on Amazon but it did not work at all for me. 12 hours after my first dose of Banyan Triphala Powder (1st day I took 1t & since then I take a heaping 1/2t) my cleanse started, continues to work as a gentle cleanse and seemingly permanent relief from constipation (I'm praying)!! What a relief!!! My BMs are gradually looking and smelling more like a "normal" person's, which hasn't been the case for the past 20 years. I now "go" 1-3 times/day :) . The taste & how I use this brand of Triphala: I was slightly concerned about the reviews regarding the taste. It doesn't taste great. Since I've been using digestive bitters for 8 months now, the bitter is not a problem for me. What I notice about the taste, way more than bitter, is astringent. It really sucks all of the moisture out of your mouth while drinking it. It is also bitter and slightly sour. A quick swish of water after drinking it makes all of that go away. I cannot add licorice powder to make it taste better because I'm on birth control and ***licorice reduces the effectiveness of estrogen therapies of all kinds. I use a heaping 1/2t of this powder in hot water and leave it covered for 20-70 minutes (in a coffee thermos, at 10am) before drinking it. I have put it in 4-8 oz of water each time. It is hardly an annoying taste in 8 oz of water (to me) but I like it better in 4 oz because I can drink it faster & while it's still warm (which I think tastes better). Other benefits I've noticed: Since the second week taking this Triphala my energy level has improved and my appetite has decreased (which is a very good thing for me). It's not like drinking coffee or taking diet pills...just a gradual overall change. I believe that this Triphala may also be either curing or at least improving my seborrheic dermatitis (SD). SD is a yeast related skin condition, often categorized under the eczema or psoriasis umbrellas. It causes red, inflamed, flaky, itching/burning skin...for me on my scalp and on my face. I have not been using the topical Rx medicine that I was prescribed as much, and progressively less since I started taking using this Triphala powder. I'm very excited for that possible added bonus! I HIGHLY recommend using this brand of Triphala powder for constipation and/or for a gentle colon cleanse!!! It has changed my life dramatically! Hopefully my diverticulitis will prove to be improved when I get my next colonoscopy, which I will be able to attribute all to Banyan Triphala Powder. Best wishes to all of you! I no longer feel extra energy or reduced appetite from this product, nor do I think it continued to help my skin condition. I think those effects may have been temporary while adjusting to triphala. Everything I expected!!!

I purchased this powder because I had tried the tablet version of the triphala and it worked great! Made me go every morning at the same time. Was very pleased was ready to reorder and thought what a great deal the powder is much cheaper so I ordered two bags. It has not made me go once. I even tried taking a tbs of it. Nothing. I tried to return it but they wouldn't let me. Just wanted to let people know if they used the tablets and was buying this to save money this may or may not work as good. Now I am stuck with two bags of powder trying to decide if i Want to spend another 20 dollars on a bottle of tablets. I really liked being able to depend on going every day at a certain time. I highly recommend the tablets. Update: I contacted the company and they could not have been nicer. They said they would work with amazon to get me a refund and they did and I ordered a huge bottle of tablets. They were so nice and at a time when I had lost a family member so that meant alot to me. I love this company.

I noticed a change in my digestion from the first day of taking this product. I’m glad that i purchased it! I am definitely feeling better. The taste is slightly bitter. If you have problems with that IMO you could add a little raw honey.
