This conditioner is awesome. After turning 50, I decided to stop coloring my greys, (come on, we should be proud to have a little silver at this point ladies). After years of dying my hair, it was always coming out too dark and looked bland after a couple of weeks. My natural color had more personality. Even though I always used the more natural home hair formulas, my hair felt stressed. But, it's hard to make that transition once you start to see the grey roots coming in. So, I went on a hunt for something to help me resist the temptation to color again, and this stuff did the trick. First of all, it is an awesome conditioner, good slippage, soft, shiny texture. Second, it does not hide the greys, but tones them down and keeps them shiny and healthy looking while adding more dimension to my natural color. I only have maybe 25% grey, but what shows is like bits of tinsel with a healthy shine. I can also use this alone to cut down on shampoo frequency for my curly hair, I have never had a product work like that before. I have used it for one month already and no build up or heavy feeling. I highly recommend to anyone looking to embrace the silver as a brunette.

5 stars for midnight brunette, 1 star for scent
I used to loooove Brilliant Brunette about 20 years ago. Over time I switched to another shampoo and conditioner. A few years ago, I thought I should really try it again and see how I like it on my aging, coarser hair. THEY CHANGED THE SMELL. 😠It used to be a warm, caramel-y scent. Now it's a super strong old lady perfume. It was absolutely unusable to me, so it went in the trash. Now, some years later, I see this new Midnight Brunette formulation. I love the idea. I have a lot of silver I cover with semi permanents, but really want to stop. But I also don't want to be fully natural while I grow out the artificial color on my length. I sometimes use color depositing shampoos and conditioners, but the staining of everything is annoying and more hassle than just coloring it. Also, the shampoos are SUUUUPER drying. So, I bought this, since it seems to be a happy medium-- darkening but not a stain that colors everything. It arrived, and I excitedly opened it--- THE SAME STINKY OLD LADY PERFUME THEY CHANGED THE ORIGINAL TO. WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?? Ugh. It's so awful. If they aren't going to go back to the wonderful original scent, I wish they'd at least change away from this one. It's so offensive. And so, so strong. ðŸ˜

Condition Yes, color deepening...maybe not
The smell is not the most amazing smell, but it is not nearly as bad as I have seen some reviews say. It absolutely does not linger in your hair. When you rinse it, it is gone. And while I am not doing a great job of describing the smell, just know that it really is not a significantly strong smell, at least for me, and it does wash out.It makes your hair feel great! It conditions your hair really well and makes your hair easy to detangle and brush. My one complaint is the color deepening, or lack thereof. Maybe I misunderstood, but there was really no significant difference in color after using this multiple times.

Love JF Brunette Products!
I'm a professional, but for the longest time John Frieda has been "my guilty pleasure"!! I'm a natural level three and toggle between a deep black and a level 5/5.5 cool toned brown depending on the weather (hahaha), and the stuff keeps my hair lush and deep!!! Very moisturizing, absolutely love the Brilliant Brunette products (THE SMELL THO)! Highly recommend

I like it for darkening my hair and softens my hair too.

Did not work on my color treated hair
Did not have any affect on my color treated hair. I have dark hair with light brown highlights that I wanted to keep more brown than blonde. This product did nothing for me 🥲
