Jemma Kidd Make-up Masterclass: Beauty Bible of Professional Techniques and Wearable Looks Review: I didn't know what I was missing. - Oh, my gosh! I love this book. First of all, it is beautiful. Full color photos accompany each technique and look. The models are stunning and are somewhat varied in age and skin tone. If you are looking for technique and procedure, you will not be disappointed. In addition to chapters on eyes, cheeks and lips, the book spans looks for different ages, skin tones and occasions. Each look and technique is made approachable with step-by-step instruction and color photographs/illustrations. The author is flexible in approach, offering layers and techniques in addition to complete looks. Each step is approachable individually. Never did I feel like I MUST do all the steps. There is also a bonus chapter on the perfect manicure and pedicure. I had initially been looking for techniques to cover dark circles under my eyes. The author helped me with that trick without needing to make any additional purchases. But if I did want to purchase different products, she has a line available at Target. How convenient! Also, she lists other sources for different types of products. I would buy this again in a heartbeat! I have already loaned it out. I missed it when it was gone! I regularly pull this book out as a reference when I have time or occasion to play with my makeup. I feel much more confident with my makeup application skills. I have a better idea of color choice and application. Reading this book has encouraged me to attempt techniques and colors that I may have never chosen before. I now know how to utilize the single colors in my eye shadow drawer. I have actually been wearing a little color on my lips--a never-before for me! It is like a handbook on all of the fun parts of being a girl. Super fun! Review: Masterclass in Beauty - Jemma Kidds Make-up Masterclass is definitely a bible of make-up face application as the book title alludes to and a must have I would recommend for beginners, and it ranks in the same level as other great beginner make-up books out there now. The skin care section of the book is very good and extensive. I like The pictures and information Jemma put in her book for make-up application for the eyes, its very helpful. The two things that sets this Big book apart from other beginner make-up books is the large beautiful pictures shown in the book and secondly the diversity of women of all races in what make-up suits their skin tone. What makes it better is Jemma extends on that and has make-up info for women of all races & ethnicities when it comes to Daytime make-up, Night time make-up, Vacation time make-up for different occasions from weddings in the day to going on a date at night in skin tones in porcelain, fair, olive, and deep skin tones. Jemma's book so far does a very good job when it comes to showing diversity in women and make-up application. This to me is a timeless book that you can use for many years to refer back to, this book for sure will be part of my permanent make-up collection. It is worth the money

awesome book for beginner to pro
the best part of this book is that it uses a lot of pictures! its easy to read and understand. There are great tips and techniques. the only issue i see is that some tips arent backed by scientific test or results so on the issue of academic credibility this is lacking-- but this is also why it makes it so great. --> YOU DONT HAVE TO READ BORING STUFF. well worth the investment.

it was so so
This book was great in providing different tutorials on different looks, and the application of makeup. I just found the photos and the styles quite dull and boring so I have to rate it 3 stars. Good for beginners and for those looking for a little twist- not a big twist lol.

The book is beautiful, but a master class should show you how do deal with problems.
Dont get me wrong, this is one of the prettiest Makeup books I have and I own about 20 of them from Bobby Brown to Kevyn Aucoin. The models are all stunning with some of the most poreless, perfect skin I have ever seen. The makeup colors are all just breathtaking on them and the makeup is applied beautifully. My beef, and why this did not get a perfect rating is for two reasons. 1. For the vast majority of women, we use makeup to help hide or improve what we see as imperfections on our face. Be it our less than perfect skin, thin lips. small eyes or missing cheekbones, whatever it may be, we are trying to look better. While she does make some attempt to address a few issues such as thin lips, there was almost nothing on how to make skin look great if you have acne, large pores or lines. There was nothing on hooded or deepset eyes and there were several other glaring omissions. In addition, if you only use models that are beyond perfect, it does not exactly provide instruction on how much of an improvement we might expect by using her techniques. If you want to impress me with your makeup skills, try applying the makeup to women who are average everyday women with issues! That would be helpful! As it is, I do not think many women will look at these models and think "oh, she has the same issue I have, I can try to correct it using this technique!" because the models had no flaws! They were stunning without makeup and stunning with it. Not very helpful to people who purchase the book for the "Masterclass" aspect. 2. The makeup colors she uses are just beautiful. The makeup used on lips, cheeks and especially the eyes were just one stunning page after another. And no where in there does she talk about what she used. In a simple photo book, it would be fine to do that, but when you are advertising this as a master class and beauty bible, you need to let us know what colors you used. And since you are marketing the book this way, you need to refrain from mixing custom eyeshadows pulled from 10 different lines on a single look. You need to make the effort to make this approachable and to clearly explain what colors you chose, from what line, why they were your choice and provide information. Just like there is a difference between Algebra and Calculus, there is a difference between what you need to teach us as a foundation, then you can publish an entire different book that is part two and discusses mixing colors and how to make custom blends on the fly as you are applying makeup to someone. This should have been the Algebra book, but she jumped right to Calc 2 and most people will be left confused and not understanding why the color choices were made and where they can find the same colors. To sum up, a beautiful book, suitable for coffee table, really it is that pretty. However there were several common issues that were not addressed and we did not see her professional techniques applied to anyone with a single skin care or structural issue with their face other than thin lips. And letting us know what makeup she was using on a given model, where it can be purchased and why she chose it would have greatly elevated this book.

Very informative
I really liked the book. I haven't finished reading it, but I have found all the tips very useful. I really like that it has this section dedicated to contouring and highlighting, how to apply blush, etc. I love the quality of the pictures and the presentation. As a makeup artist on the rise, I think this book will teach me a lot. It's a great reference book. Besides, I liked the price. In Mexico these books are terribly expensive. Loved it!

Great for Beginners to Intermediate (Maybe even beyond)
I wouldn't call myself a beauty professional but any definition of the word, but I do enjoy makeup and reading beauty blogs daily to learn about the latest products and tutorials so I'd consider myself knowledgeable. That being said, I greatly enjoyed this book. I knew a lot of the basics, but I haven't picked it up yet where I didn't learn something, no matter how small, that I didn't know before. This book has me constantly tweaking my makeup routine for the better. And the pictures are beautiful!
