can the music be turned off?

It can. All you have to do is turn the volume dial to its minimum setting. If you orient the carousel so that all the switches and button are to your right, then turning the volume dial toward you or in the clockwise direction, will turn it all the way down. Turning the dial counterclockwise will turn it up.

I would say it’s about 2 feet wide, and may be about 2 1/2 feet tall. If I were you, I would make sure you have ample space for this thing, because it’s pretty big, and it weighs about 15 pounds.
