A Collector's Comparison (Marjolein Bastin vs. Barabara Heller)
I collect editions of "Pride and Prejudice" based purely on how pretty or interesting they are. This edition is both! I love the embossed linen texture of the binding, and the little foiled accents catch the light beautifully on my shelf. I agree with other reviewers that the floral illustrations do not seem to be particularly connected to the story, but they put me in mind of pressed flowers left between the pages, which gives a kind of vintage or nostalgic feel. And of course the illustrations themselves are lovely, very true to nature. For me the real draw of this edition is the ephemera left between the pages. It's a similar concept to Barbara Heller's correspondence edition, which includes handwritten letters from the book, but a little different because it includes things other than letters. There's a map, a family tree, a dance card, and some other interesting related bits. In terms of attention to detail, Barbara Heller's edition is superior; each letter is painstakingly copied in calligraphy chosen for the individual character writing it, and the folding, postmarks and distressing are accurate to the period. But the ephemera tucked into this edition is more fun, and I think the copy itself is more readable (the Heller edition is large, thick, and has glassine envelope folders interspersed with the pages). If you're a collector and can only afford one, I recommend the Heller edition over this simply because the letters are just gorgeous. If you're a collector and can afford both, I think both deserve a spot in any collection. But if you just want a lovely and interesting copy of "Pride and Prejudice" to read, as a gift or for yourself, you can't go wrong with this edition. It's high quality, readable, beautiful, and the ephemera helps draw you into the story world. This would be a particularly excellent gift for a teen classics reader.

Totalmente lo amo!
Me hubiese gustado la versión en español pero igual no importa. El libro está genial, los detalles son geniales, tiene un mapa del antiguo Londres, una invitación a una fiesta y otras cosas más. En verdad vale la pena comprarlo

Beautifully illustrated, a joy to read
I find it amusing that Amazon states the reading age group as 7 - 10 years old. Obviously they have no clear understanding of the Jane Austen devotees like myself who will read her books into our dotage. Having said that, its so lovely to hold a favorite novel that is so enchanting in its illustrations. I hope that the Austen series will continue with the addition of Mansfield Park and Northanger Abbey so my collection will be complete!
