Pyrenees Approved
So, if you’ve ever met a Great Pyrenees, you know they’re enormous. With enormity comes enormous, powerful jaws and big, strong teeth. Miss Xena, my Pyrenees puppy, was decimating an XL cheese chew in about five minutes, quite literally. That gets expensive, real fast. And it’s no fun for Xena, when the five minutes are up and mom doesn’t have anymore pricey cheese for her. Enter the jughead. This thing is a game changer, seriously. She’s been chewing the same chew for 2 days and while it’s got tooth marks all over the exposed parts of the cheese, that sucker remains intact and she’s still enthralled by it. This is fantastic. It was very easy to put the cheese inside, stays in securely. No complaints there. My only issue with it is the horrible odor and the flavor. How do I know it tastes bad? I know, that sounds really weird. I didn’t lick it, I swear. I accidentally put my hand to my mouth after handling it, and the flavor is nasty, strong, and bitter. Wash it before you give it to your dog, and wash your hands after you handle it for the first time, or you will feel like you ate one of those earwax flavor joke jellybeans for the next few hours. Anyway, five stars from me. My dog is thrilled. The other three dogs are pretty upset with me though, for only getting one. I’m kicking myself too, I bought this during the Amazon pet days sale for $10 and now it’s double that. But it’s worth it, so I just ordered two more. Can’t disappoint the furry masses, after all, in the name of saving a few dollars. I’m thinking I’ll make it up in savings on cheese chews anyway.

Falling apart after third use (Fixed - updated review below)
ORIGINAL REVIEW: Got this for my puppy to help our yaky chews stand a chance but the rubber is already cracking at the edges. Maybe my yaky was too big or maybe our dog was a little too rough on it...I am hoping this one was just defective and have returned it for a replacement. If the second one stands up to his regular use I will update my review with what we learn. Aside from the cracks at the edges, my dog did love the toy. He carried it around even when it was empty and we tested it with water buffalo pizzle sticks which worked great too. It definitely keeps his little brain occupied longer than the treat by itself. There are some reviews saying the dog can't get to the cheese - if the dog is still interested and is licking and playing then the toy is serving it's purpose of keeping the cheese safe from being devoured in five minutes. The licking will soften the cheese and the dog will still get some of the treat, just very slowly. After a couple of hours our cheese hardly had any damage but the dog absolutely loved it. The jug head (if the next one isn't defective) is not only prolonging play, it's keeping dogs safe from choking themselves on small pieces they could normally break off of the cheeses. With all that said, your mileage may vary but with my three agressive chewers I rate this a 3/5 with hopes that the toy I got was just a bad batch and the next one may last longer. Great concept! UPDATE: after over a year with four of these jughead's now I am upgrading this product to 5/5 stars. The first one we had did start to fall apart but the Amazon return process made it easy to swap out and we haven't had an issue since. I think now the issue with the first one was just my own learning curve - I think the cheese I was using was too big so I bought 2 medium and 2 large jughead's to make sure no matter what size cheese I get it will fit, plus, now each dog can have their own jughead! As. All four of the jughead's we use are in great shape and have no splitting like that first one. I recommend the jughead to all of our friends and family.

Good product but short of what I hoped for
Pros: Makes cheese chew last longer. Our dog seems to stay engaged for a long period of time. Will us as chew toy even when empty. Cons: Don't know what brand other folks are using for cheese chews but the chews I use can not fit bigger then a medium in. Since our dog likes to use as chew toy, it is not likely to last as we are already seeing some tearing from chewing on it. Our dog will finish the center section of the cheese chew that is easy to get to, then we have two short pieces that will fall out of the toy. If we just give our dog a loose cheese chew, we only end up with one small piece. Part of the attraction to the toy was being able to avoiding having the dog chew on pieces small enough to potentially choke on. Bottom line. cheese chews do last longer. Dog loves playing with the toy. Durability is questionable as chewing damage is visible after the second or third cheese chew. Does not eliminate and actually increases potential for dog having small pieces to chew on. More susceptible to damage from chewing than I hoped for. Like any chew toy, SUPERVISION IS REQUIRED. Level up supervision dependent on dog and chewing habits

Very sturdy
My dog tries to get the Himalayan chew out of it but cannot. That’s a good thing but she gets bored so doesn’t chew it much

Intense chewer loves this!
Bought this a few weeks ago for my 60ish pound crazy chewer. He can usually decimate a large yak chew in a few hours, if it's a good and dense one. We've tried lots of brands and it's rare to have one last much longer. The Jughead is actually pretty big, but has smaller spaces that are easy for him to get his mouth around. His mouth is big enough for all of it, but you get to the yak chew on the smaller bits. He absolutely loves this toy and, nearly 3 weeks into use, the original yak chew in it is still largely intact. The Jughead has no damage, either. We are quite impressed! When I got it, it looked too big for a large yak chew. So, I chose the biggest one we had. However, getting it in took a bit of force - it's meant to squeeze in there. Once we got it popped in, it's stayed securely in there. The Jughead also has enough interior width that the cheese can move around a bit back and forth. That probably makes it more interesting for the dog. All in all, this has been a great purchase. It's survived young dog energy and kept him entertained. He loves to carry it with him from room to room, into the crate, and even outside.

WE LOVE IT
I have a 7 mo 40lb Lab who loves Yaks. I love them cause it keeps her busy but I was afraid she would bit off a piece and choke. This toy is fantastic. It’s easy to get the Yak into it but impossible so far for her to get it out. The orange one is very heavy so I wouldn’t recommend it for small or smaller medium dogs. At 40lbs she can just manage to carry it which is fine for her since she’s still growing. She uses her front teeth to chew on the Yak. However, She’s very smart and is now chewing the end of the toy trying to get the Yak out but the toy is very strong and she hasn’t been able to damage the toy. If you have a dog you want to keep busy get this. It’s worth the money if you give Yaks and its great mental stimulation for them trying to get at the Yak.

Orange super size is too big/heavy for a 35 lb dog, and seller doesn't do returns
The "super" orange size says that it's suitable for 35+ lb dogs. My beagle mix is exactly 35 lbs, and it is much too heavy for him. The description is also not helpful for what size yak chews are suitable for either the orange super or the green classic, so I was not sure which to purchase. I figured I'd start with the large and then exchange for a different size if needed. They don't take returns. Guess that's on me for not checking the return policy, but it's frustrating when chew sizes aren't even given on the description. Medium size native pet brand yak chews fit in the orange super size, but they are still farily small and move around too much in the cavity for my dog to grab onto.

Its fiiiiiiine, maybe my hopes were too high
The yak chews I get my dog didn’t fit in this at first, the toy itself is pretty short and I’m sure the brand wants you to buy their own yak chews. Once we were able to fit the cheese in it, my dog was afraid of it because it’s rather bulky and big, so we took the cheese back out and, most surprisingly of all, my dog played with this cheese stick holder rather than the actual cheese stick! We’ve been able to fit some other chews in this, especially after my dog makes them a little shorter. It’s not the MOST functional but I like the idea of it, my dog mildly enjoys it still.
