A must have for handheld video shooters
I use this with my Sony RX10 when I am going to shoot videos as it makes it very easy to start and stop the recording and to zoom if desired. I used to use video cameras to film my son's football games (he's the coach now) and find that the RX10 makes it far easier to film them, as I don't have to bring anything other and the RX10, this grip, an eye cover, and an extra battery. No more tripods, large camera bags, external viewfinders. I have never used this as a tripod and when the legs are closed the grip is quite comfortable to hold. I did purchase a neoprine device that fits over the RX10 eyepiece and then covers my left eye so that I don't have to close it, which makes the other eye less able to see. Works like a charm and the quality of the viewfinder of the RX10 allows me to follow the football better than even the 5" and 7" external monitors I used to use with my video cameras. I know this sounds like a commercial for the Sony RX10, and I guess it probably is, but without this grip I would not use this camera for filming games that start and stop every few seconds. It would not be practical and would require additional post-production work, and I do not charge my son's school to film their games. Plus, I will be 75 this year and climbing up to press boxes with a lot of equipment is no longer something I desire to do. The only problem now is when I tell the ticket seller that I film the games for the school, they wonder why I don't have a lot of equipment with me to do the job.

nice for video, still images ??
Like most Sony accessories, very high quality, and in this case, priced reasonably.... My biggest issue with this accessory is.... for video, the start / stop button is very well placed for your thumb, if you are right handed. You get a good grip and the thumb naturally falls over the start button...however, for still images capture, the button is on the other side, so its hard to get your thumb on the button, while still keeping a decent grip on the handle....then when you press the button, due to unnatural hand position, you get a little camera shake, exactly what u are trying to avoid. For a lefty, its perfect, but considering the majority of the population is a right handed, I would say Sony got the two buttons reversed for ideal ergonomics, as video shake is a non issue, as you only start and stop once during a long period of capture time, vs. still images which fires the shutter immediately upon pressing, specially with the RX100 series of cameras in HDR mode, where it rapid fires the shots, with timer delay NOT offered in these modes. Although Sony has done a great job upgrading many of their accessories and software features in their products, I still marvel how many major oversights they still make....as if the design engineers never use the products... Of course, for small cameras this gives you a nice grip when you have the carry space to bring it.... and, the other obvious benefit, it doubles as a table top tripod which is a nice feature. Fix the button sides, or make put a switch on it so the user can set which side is video / still capture, based on left / right handed use....then, 5 stars indeed...

Does what it says... PLUS it works with the NEW SONY RX10!
I bought this on a "leap of faith" hoping it would work with my brand spanking new Sony RX10 camera that Sony just came out with. Since this grip/tripod is mainly used for traditional camcorder style cameras, I was hoping it would work on this brand new "DSLR Style" cameras... AND IT DID! IT WORKS! It takes photos, it zooms in/out and it starts/stops video recording all from the controls on the grip! It is a quality piece of gear, its grip has a rubber finish on the handle and it folds out tripod style to support the camera when not shooting or for stationary shots. It also has an adjustment on the deck to balance out the camera (slide it forward and back) plus it has a push button area to adjust the ANGLE of the handle so it feels very comfortable and balanced during shooting. Find the angle you feel most comfortable with, set it and forget it. Your good to go shooting! If you have the new SONY RX10 (awesome do it all/video camera by the way) then you will LOVE this little piece of gear for it! Just get it. It works.

Works well
I used grip yesterday for about 3 hours straight. It definitely makes it more comfortable to use the camera. The buttons worked every time. It was very easy to stop and start the recording. I really like the zoom button. If you push the zoom button gently, then it does a slow zoom. If you press a little harder, you can feel like a "click", and it zooms in more quickly. I really like that feature. The grip is pricey, but for me it's worth it. I kind of wish the grip was longer and thicker. Maybe even a pistol grip. But it works well as it is.

Nice idea, but currently disappointed - read on!
I really liked the idea of this. I looked and finally found one. BUT, ALTHOUGH, it greatly disappointed me. It works with my FDR-X3000 Sony action Cam, as I was VERY pleased that it did, I took a chance and bought it. The zoom in and out button works great - until you start recording: then the zoom feature doe snot work - BIG BUMMER - Stupid! It only works when not recording. I'm considering returning it.... So, either it's defective and I need a replacement, or it's defective. Therefore - time will tell what further review I give.

Great for Handheld video recording
I love this grip. It makes holding the camera steady while video recording much easier and I can operate the record/stop button much easier on the grip than I can on the camera. The wide/tele switch is a little sensitive and requires a little practice for a slow zoom - otherwise it moves really fast. It is easy to learn in just a few tries though. The tripod is surprisingly steady and the camera angle can be adjusted surprisingly well. Highly recommend if you use your sony Alpha cameras (especially the A6000, A6300 or A6500) for handheld video recording.

The grip is good, but expected multiple functionality, so that it would be compatible with multiple Sony cameras. Sony could have added some length to it & why not gimbal function? It is good but not really winner. Loved Amazon india quality genuine product delivery .

Just the ticket for running the Sony FDR ax100E hand held. And all the buttons work during filming.

Great grip and tripod work good with my Sony handycam I think it is a bit over priced for what you get I am happy it comes with a little carrying bag to put it in hard to reach the buttons when using the tripod with camcorder. But work great when holding it in your hand and I like the security strap to put around your wrist in case you accidentally drop it or falls out of your hand would recommend to family and friends. Thanks Amazon

I find this easy to control the camera very good.

I find the pistol grip more natural for recording than the normal grip, but also find just having the pistol grip attached provides much more stability when using the normal grip as it rests against your wrist and forearm . The tripod function is also very nice and convenient to sit the camera on a tabletop or wall for steady recording.
