You would think that my 16lb butterball cat would eat just about anything but he's the world's pickiest cat with his food. He also has some food sensitivities and will give back some of it later if it doesn't set well with him. This is usually done on my keyboard, the bed or whatever files I'm working on to be sure that I don't miss the food critique. The proplan has worked out very well. He likes it (Although I do have to get a variety), the ingredients are good, it actually smells like real food and it does not upset his stomach. This

Cat loves it, but contacted purina & phosphorus dry matter very high for cat early kidney disease
Updated 5/2021: for cats with kidney disease it’s best to feed food that is lower in phosphorus - ideally a prescription food since those have a lower phosphorus. This will help slow the progression of kidney disease so that your cat will live longer. Unfortunately my cat doesn’t like either the Hills or Royal Canin prescription foods - I’ve tried both dry food and canned. So I contacted purina to find out what the phosphorus dry matter basis is for this food. I knew of course that it would not be as low in phosphorus as a prescription food for kidney disease but had thought since labeled for cats age 11+ that it would be on the lower side of phosphorus. However it is actually quite a bit higher phosphorus than some others I’ve found. Here’s the info from purina company - dry matter basis.Pro Plan Can Cat Salmon & Tuna Senior 11+ = Phosphorus 1.77% DMPro Plan Can Cat Chicken & Beef Senior 11+ = Phosphorus 1.79% DMFor comparison Hills prescription canned k/d chicken and vegetable is 0.49 % dry matter. A non prescription food can’t be that low but I have found several that are about 0.72% to 0.80%. This Purina pro plan is significantly higher than a lot of foods I’ve located so I am no longer giving it to my cat.Original review:My cat is probably only 8 years old, but sadly he has stage 2 chronic kidney disease. His vet and internal specialist strongly recommended prescription kidney food but my cat just won’t eat enough of that and walks away (his sense of taste is probably reduced by a medication he takes for unrelated issue). So my vet suggested next best to prescription canned food would be Hills ages 11+ canned food and said NOT the ages 7+ varieties. . That has been out of stock everywhere this year - my cat liked it for a month and then got less interested. It only is made in 1 flavor so no variety to help interest himThen I found this. It’s formulated for truly senior cats - and it comes in 2 flavors - and my cat likes both flavors.

It helped with food allergies
My cat likes it. She likes almost any food. I was feeding her fancy feast and dry food usually proplan dry. She is getting old 16 I thought she had dandruff real bad all these years. The vet never said anything about the dry skin. I had to take clippers to her for some mats. She has super thick undercoat. When I shaved her I noticed scars on her back and some scabs. I scratched at them and it looked just like dandruff. Poor cat has had food allergies. So I switched food and no more scabs

Great food, too many shipments of bad cans
I have an old cat that is just THE most finicky eater. Even with this food, she will sometimes throw a kitty tantrum and not eat it. She’s extremely feisty and frustrating! That being said, I’ve tried dozens and dozens of brands of food, cheap to the most expensive, and this is the only one she consistently eats now. I’m honestly just so thankful that she isn’t a giant headache about food anymore and not losing all her weight. My only complaint is that she has gotten sick now with about 3-4 different batches sent by Amazon - and then she vomits everywhere and won’t eat for almost 48 hours. It’s very scary and I’ve figured out that she simply can’t eat this food until that period passes, then I’ll give it back to her and she’ll be fine for weeks. But I’ve had to dump entire 24-packs because of bad food - you can tell immediately when you open the cans. Either they have a dent and they’ve rotted or there’s these dark spots and the small amount of liquid that comes in the can is dark brown instead of a clear, light yellow/brown.I really wish Amazon would vet these packages better and keep an eye out for dented cans. It’s a huge waste and puts my cat through some suffering for a couple days. I’m afraid one of these times might put too much strain on her 2-decade old system :( But otherwise this food is the only thing she eats!!

Nice portions
My vet recommended that I start feeding my elderly cat wet food. She's twelve years old. I can't tell you how many different brands I bought and then had to either throw away or give to a shelter because she would not eat it. I actually tried every brand that was available in the stores near me. Now I have to turn to Amazon to shop for other brands. This was the first one she ate without hesitation. I still leave dry food in her bowl during the day, but she gets half a can of the Purina Pro Plan Senior Canned Wet Cat Food for breakfast. She is ready for her "breakfast" in the morning. She eats half of it right away then goes back in a few hours to finish the tiny bowl. The only downside is it is a little pricy. But right now, I have no choice since it's the only wet food she will eat. I don't mind as it's all for the health (and love) of my animal.
