Q: Made where? japanese steel doesn't mean japanese made but these are quite expensive - if china it's a shocking price.

These scissors are made from high carbon steel from Japan and manufactured in Taiwan (not China). We have expertise in making a blade - metal infusion for hardness, controlled heating/cooling process, grinding at the right angle, etc. A lot of expertise and technology goes into making our shears which is why they are superior to any competitor. We have tested our shears against competitors and our can product at least twice as many cuts on Kevlar as anyone. The price is really not expensive considering performance. Just yesterday I was talking to a braid company and the owner told me that nothing cuts Kevlar, Vectran and Zylon like our shears (they make parachute suspension lines since 1967). Another sail making loft said nothing cuts Spectra like these shears (they were using 10" ATi-808 which has the same blade technology). Yes, it does come with a nylon holster which has a belt loop. Thank you.

Q: Can one sharpen the edges since it has a micro-serrated blade? OR when dull throw out? How long before it becomes dull/hours of use days weeks?

One blade is serrated but the other one is not serrated. The non-serrated edge can be sharpened. You can sharpen the blade twice for same performance; after the third sharpening the performance will still be very good but not 100%. The feedback from multitude customers (and the other two answers to this question) indicate that the pair last for a very long time. We also sell as very good sharpener (ASIN: B00EJ9CQKA) which many of our customers use.

Q: Will this cut 1/2" dyneema? Or do I need a bigger size

Hello Jason: This length of this set of shears is 5.5" (139 mm) and the blade cutting length is 1-5/8" (42 mm). You can certainly cut 1/2" Dyneema but it won't be in one swoop; may be 2-3 swoops. Based on inquiry from a rig shop they use our 8" shears [ASIN: B0184H0DDE] to cut from 3/8" to 3/4" Dyneema, Vectran and Spectra. The 8" probably could go to 1" as well. Anything thicker than that, we have 10" shears [ASIN: B07HP9NRZ6] and 11" shears [ASIN: B07HPCGMCZ]. A local rope manufacturer uses the 10" to cut Technora lines from 1.25" to 1.5" To sum it up if you will cut 1/2" Dyneema occasionally and mostly cut small sizes of Dyneema, you could get by with the 5.5" shears.
