What is the blade length on this knife? The specs say the OAL is 9.8", so judging from the photos I'm guessing maybe 4.5" at best?

I have it in my hands now and the blade length is 3.75 - the OAL is 8.5

Does the knife lock or clip into the sheath?

securely fits but ther'es no extra clip securing it or locking it in place. Never had a problem with it coming out when when hiking with it clipped on my pack.

Does the Fire knife fit properly in a "Companion" knife sheath? Some of the neon colors are a bit bright to wear around town.

Unlike the clowns responding to questions with no clue about the correct answer, I actually have a Fire Knife and a couple of Companions. So I tried swapping them and found (to my surprise) that the FireKnife fits in the larger Companion sheath and the Companion also fits in the smaller FireKnife sheath. My FireKnife has just the slightest amount of play in the Companion sheath, probably from slight manufacturing variability since it also has a tiny amount of play (but a hair less) in its own sheath. The difference in play between the two knives in the Companion sheath seems to be attributable to the shorter FireKnife blade having a little more room to wobble side to side. In reality, unless you are really trying to lose it, I very much doubt it would come loose. The blade end of each handle, where they clip into the sheath, appears to be identical in both size and shape.So the short answer is yes, the Companion and FireKnife knife and sheath are interchangeable both ways, even though the blade lengths are slightly different. Regarding the colors, two of my Companions are orange, one is military green, and my FireKnife is what looks like neon green on the website, but in reality is nowhere near that bright. It is actually a light, medium green. On the other hand, the orange color of the Companions actually is pretty much a dayglow orange. I do the same thing with them and often use an orange knife in the military green sheath, which does make it a lot less conspicuous in public. However, as someone else mentions in response to those "answers", the FireKnife sheath does NOT have a hole in the belt clip for hanging the sheath off a button or snapping it onto another sheath with a button on the front.(Yes, I know that this question was asked a little over 2 years ago. But someone else may be wondering the same thing and the two previous answers are either wrong or pointless.)

Is the special tip grind on both sides? Does this make it more difficult to sharpen than a uniform grind?

The thinned tip section/secondary edge is matched on both sides. Overall, the knife has a semi scandi grind, with a very small primary edge beyond the major bevel. The knife won't be terribly difficult to sharpen and maintain, I'd suggest handling the knife and working with the blade before you absolutely would need this in a survival situation.
